Engine running or engine off?

After all the parts were changed (I'll assume you forgot to mention you replaced the strut rod bushings as well?) what kind of alignment did you put on it?
A stock spec alignment is not the best and often gives a wandering feel to the car.  :alan2cents:

The stock "over boosted" steering gives a wandering feel.

If aligned to stock spec it is set for bias tires , you need a lot more caster with radial tires

Is it really loose or are you trying to compare it to today's rack and pinion steering that has virtually no play. We're restoring these cars but still using 50 yr. old technology.

When I rebuilt my car, I was very disappointed with the steering slop.  Even though all of my performance parts were supposed to make it "modern feeling", it was just as bad as stock. I adjusted the sector shaft adjuster and dialed in a tight steering 'Cuda. Super easy to do and takes no time or money to try.

Just to double check, you make the adjustment with the engine running. Right now, with steering center link free, engine running, I have no play in the sector shaft and pitman arm. Idler arm is tight with no play. Still have a very very slight movement. Would shimming the power steering pump flow control help to control the wandering feeling by reducing pump pressure? Right now for me, the coupler moves in the gear mesh. I was thinking that's my problem because everything up front is new and tight. Otherwise I'm kinda lost where my slight steering play is coming from.
