Took off my wheels; wondering if these are some kind of wheel locks

Took off my wheels and these annoyingly large things made it much more of a hassle than I liked. Are they some kind of wheel locks, or are they for centering the wheels? I'd love to never use them again.

Yup, I forget what they are called but they were a variation on the unilug design...

So these are used to align the slotted lug holes in the rims right?
That way your not just using the lug nuts to center up the wheels to the hub, correct?

The slotted holes are unilugs, these use round holes that are oversize.... Those arrows should point either straight out or toward the hub center.....

After some looking around I found a picture & a post asking more questions about these, they were from Appliance, late 70's & early 80's.... Appliance made allot of different wheel styles that used them....
