Traction bars debate - good or bad on Mopars?

Ya, I think the bad rap is they were used as a "band aid" for weak springs and they were not fitted to hit the eye and could bend the spring. My plan is to lengthen them to hit the eye and also taper the bottom side of the tube to a shorter hieght to give me a bit more ground clearance. I`m sure i`ll get some comments but hey it`s my car and I am biulding it for no one but myself.  :P

I like your attitude . . . you're not building it to make others happy, what's the point if you're not happy?

Not mentioned yet, but one benefit of both the snubber and traction bars, is they help keep the driveline angle aligned ... especially in big tired, powerful cars.

I would only worry about others peoples feelings if I was building a nut and bolt restoration oh, but it is nice to contrast against other opinions and solidify what you want to do.

On a similar topic what do people think about running half Springs? Similar effect to traction bars without the clearance or visibility issues

  Ever notice that the front segment before the axle is closer to the tire ??  Brand X leafsprings are very close to the same distance apart{front to rear} and needed the slapper bars to keep the wheel hop to a minimum...Mopar chose to  alter the spring tracking front to back  and as a result mopars didn't suffer the wheel hop like other brands..
   As stated earlier a correctly set up mopar doesn't need  slapper bars or the pinion snubber...I've got no adjustable pinion snubber and it hooks hard and launches straight every time..Leave the bars for the Camaros...They need them...

Absolutely, I support anyone building their car they way they want (I do). So if it is looks you are going after have at it, but if you are seeking performance or traction, etc. traction bars are not the way to go.

I had a spring set under a car once that worked so good at lifting the car that it would severely over angle the u-joints at the launch. U-joints outside their comfort range at 5000 rpm makes for big bangs when they come apart. I had to lower my launch rpm to avoid the excessive rise and roll into the throttle further after the car started moving. My 60 ft times weren't stellar but the thing made up plenty of time after that.

Way back in the day, I raced a 340 Dart with a modded engine. I ran it for a long time without traction bars, but finally decided to install a set on it. The ET didn't change, but I will say that the car "settled" into the track sooner immediately after launch. It made it easier to drive out of the hole on a prepped track. It left smoother and went dead straight.

A friend uses CalTracs on his Barracuda 71 512ci with a good time on Pro ET Dragster Championship. I use a Streetlynx RMS kit on my Barracuda 70 416ci
A Barracuda 70 that wants to be as big as a Cuda Trans am.
