I think as long as you set your expectations accordingly you'll have no issues buying anything used.  :alan2cents:

I have a few times I find used tires:

1. Farm truck - tons of people get rid of tires because they are too loud on the road or too agressive, finding chunky tires for the farm truck is easy.

2. Lease returns - Before my wife commuted a long distance I used to lease my daily drivers. Car was going back in 8 months? used tires it got.

3. Lemons/ chump car Racing - We built a car once. It cost a fortune to do but tires were cheap because we bought them used. The junyards seem to like it when you buy them rim and all. If you ever get the chance to join a team this is a blast but not cheap. Compared to buying a supercar and racing it around the track it may be cheap but cheap is relative. Even the cheapest racing is expensive.

Overall I am not adverse to used tires. When I was in highschool it's all I could afford. Most of those cars were destined for the junyard anyways so no need to put supercar tires on them. In fact, I probably bought better tires because I could afford a set of semi used quality tires instead of some chinese no name tire.
Someday I will have a J0b.

Broken belt, had it happen to me once maybe 45 years ago. Have not seen much of it any more.

Bingo.  Informed decision is on the money. Know what you are talking about and pass that info on to the next guy. Or the person buying the car from you. Just like you would hope somebody wouldn't hide something from you that you would like to know about something you were buying from them. Building motors does not somehow educate you one anything else automotive related. Generally engine performance techs do not do brake or suspension work. We all have our own interests and strengths.    Remember to " Do what you do, Don't do what you don't do " Think about that for a minute. :handshake:

I guess every car sold should have the disclaimer that the tires are "used"

Go ahead and laugh. Safety is no laughing matter. There are other people reading these post's that need serious info.

It was a joke and I think everyone sees it as that. Truth is these cars are horribly unsafe even with the best tires money can buy. I'd like to think that if I can rebuild an engine or install new frame rails, I can probably look at a rubber tire and decide if it's safe enough to reuse. If I went through life worrying about every minor chance I'm taking on something like this, I'd never leave the house.

I think everyone is overreacting to me putting these tires on a car I'm selling. They are way better than what I was going to sell the car with. The new owner is free to put on brand new tires and yes I will disclose what I've done so he can make an informed decision.

Did you at least take a look and see when they were molded?

There are times that buying used is OK , like someone changes tire size or wheels on a new vehicle or a new vehickle was damaged beyond repair , & times not to bad brands or just way old tires , I have seen brand new tires with the molding nubs still on the tread that were years old or separating with no miles on them , I have bought & run  used tires from both scenerios most of the time I have regretted it !
I bought a set of new Toyos for my van & got 90,000 miles out of them , I bought new chinese tires for 1/2 the cost & got 12,000 miles out of them ,so which was cheaper ?
I also bought a pair of used Continentals as the tire store was closed on Sunday so I could not get new  & I had to have tires on the van for the next day neither lasted 1 month the tread separated on both.
I will nt buy BFGarbge for my lawn mower , I have just seen too many of them have problems even brand new .
Yes I have numerous stories ....
