1970 Dodge Challenger

I have finally started working on a 1970 Dodge Challenger that has been in my family since I was 14. My dad's first car was a 70 challenger and I bought mine with the intentions of it being my first car but that never happened. The 440 in it had engine problems so my dad and I ended up tearing it down and rebuilt the engine. Once we got it running, we tried to move it and nothing. It needed transmission work and I had spent all my money on buying the car and the rebuild. My dad offered to buy the car from me so that I could use the money to buy something else that actually drove. He ended up keeping it for the next 16 years and never did anything to it. They decided to move to AZ and asked if I wanted it back and of course I did. This was about 5 years ago and I was hoping to have worked on it more since I got it but of course life got in the way. Fast forward to now and 4 kids later, I'm ready to get it back on the road.

Off with the stock intake and thermoquad. Installed the street dominator intake and Holley 850dp

Great story. You know the old saying, better late than never. Now that you are back on track everyone will be wanting updates as this build/restoration progresses.  :welcome: :wrenching: :cheers:

Great story. I have a '70 Challenger as well.  What are your plans for the car?  I'm looking forward to future updates.

Thanks! Hopefully I will update often, I keep buying parts so I definitely have plenty to do.

I really just want to get it driveable. I have never actually driven the car so being able to do that would be amazing.

I pulled the valve covers to make sure everything looked ok since it had been sitting for so long. Replaced the vc bolts with studs which made the gasket install very easy. I decided to paint the valve covers and air cleaner with wrinkle paint. It came out nice but I don't think I would ever use that paint again. It was very frustrating trying to get it all to wrinkle nicely. Multiple heavy coats and using a heat gun was the trick.

I also started working on installing the Lokar throttle and kickdown linkages.

My progress on the car has been slow. My son started kindergarten and I swear we have been getting sick every other week. I was able to make some progress on replacing the steering gear with a Borgeson unit. I got the box installed along with a new pitman arm(moog 7075). I have to figure out where I'm going to mount the power steering cooler and run AN lines. Since I had to drop the column, I will use the opportunity to paint it and replace the turn signal switch.

Great story. Just don't give up. I have been working on mine for over 15 years. 3 kids and a divorce later, still piecing it together. They are actually never finished it seems.

I had my helper in the shop this weekend. He was excited to help take apart the steering column. We found some issues so it will get a full rebuild. I just placed an order with Roseville for everything.
