Here are some pictures that may help . . .

I agree, nice pictures, clean build ...but totally wrong for a 1971 Cuda. :alan2cents:

The secondary shield that is passing through the frame rail is only found on 1970 E Bodies with California emissions (ie vent tube in the trunk). Although all 1971 E Bodies had the vent tube in the trunk they never used that secondary shield, it was eliminated early in the 71 model year. :alan2cents:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

:iagree: It may not be factory correct for a '71 but still answers the posted question of how the shield gets installed.  :dunno:  Pictures above are from a '71 but not from my car which I guess really doesn't matter as mine is not an OE restoration.  When I was installing my tank and vent, I was unable to locate the second "C" shaped shield that passes through the frame rail so I opted to cover each of the four vent hoses that pass through the frame rail with a high temp tubing sleeve on my car.  Again . . . not factory correct for a '71 but functional just the same.  :alan2cents:

Thanks Claudia, that is how I put that shield in,  hopefully after this weekend, most of the remaining small stuff is DONE. Then back to the body guy to fix my screw up.. Then start driving it... :)

Here's what most of the 71's look like that I have seen.  Mine's a little bit more of a sloppy build
