Hello. Were there different hood springs used for the flat hood compared to the RT or performance hood? I have seen some springs with 22 coils and some appear to have 19 coils. Is 22 for flat hoods and the 19 coils for the heavier RT hood? My hood is the RT type hood but have the 22coil springs and I am getting a raise in the back of my hood when closed and have to push it down to be level. Hood hinges, springs or both maybe bad?? Any thoughts? Thanks all.

Could be just an adjustment as well. :dunno:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

Borrowed from Resto Rick's website....

A common alignment problem on E-body & 71-up B-bodies is with the rear hood edge being up too high with the hinges being adjusted all the way down on the inner fender.
This is an adjustment problem! Start by moving the hinge up on the inner fender. (yes, up!)
Then, loosen the 2 rear bolts and leave the front bolt snug. Now lift the hood to make the hinge rotate (as viewed from the side). Retighten the rear bolts and check the fit. This procedure will get that tail to come down. Adjust the front-to-rear dimension on the hood side bolts.
It can be frustrating and take some time, but these hoods will fit correctly! I've installed them with the hood sitting about 2 1/2" above the fender...using this method, the hood was fitting perfect in a few minutes!

It's the way the hinge is adjusted and not the spring.   :iagree:  Push up on the hood like it says in Resto Rick's instructions and then tighten.

I also forgot to mention. When I lift the hood all the way up and let go it comes back down about two inches. Is this normal or weak springs or hinges or to do with the adjustment you guys have mentioned.Thanks.

Pretty much normal.... There probably is some wear but personally I'm not spending $300 to rebuild hinges that can be adjusted to work well..
