Does the hood latch assembly fit the same on either hood? I know the mounting bolts are a different size but any other fitment issues I should be concerned about? TIA

If you have all of the correct '71 latches for both the grille support and the underside of the hood, then you shouldn't have a problem.

I've had 2 '71s that had '70 hoods put on at a later date, but before my ownership:

'71 EV2 340 3-speed, louvers, SE moulding, wide hood chrome etc.  Collision shop in Vancouver had put a '70 R/T hood on it with the DODGE lettering

'71 FC7 340 4-speed ragtop.  Original hood had been removed and replaced with a flat hood from a '70 SE

If you need the '71 latches, I think I still have a full set here...

Thanks but I have the original latches on my 71 flat hood but will be upgrading to a rallye hood. Found a '70 hood in good condition. Ya the DODGE letters are an issue. Maybe better off to swap it for a newer hood? I'm not a body man and have no clue how what it would take to repair the little holes from the letters.

I ran into this problem before...The 1970 hood I tried to put on a 71 DID NOT have the raised boss to mount the pull lever support bracket. I didn't notice until after the hood was all painted....There was no way to mount that bracket... :headbang:

You're right about that -- it's been 22 and 15 years respectively since I owned those cars.  IIRC one of them had the '70 secondary release and the other may have been butchered to get the '71 bracket to work.

To the OP, a clean '70 R/T hood has got to be worth a bit more than a clean '71-up R/T hood.  You could probably swap or buy/sell and be no worse off.

Ya I was thinking I would be no worse off. If nothing else I could just use the secondary latch and I plan on adding hood pins so that should work.
Out of curiosity how are the AMD hoods?

AMD hoods have the boss for the 71 latches. I've used lots of AMD hoods

That answers questions. Thanks Alan

I've spent close to 25 years looking for a replacement OEM 71 Rallye hood that was not rusted or destroyed.
I've found more original shaker hoods than 71 Rallye hoods.

Previous owner drilled 2 randomly placed holes in the hood and upper grill support for hood pins. Holes in went through the hood 's support structure in an awkward spot and would have been darn near impossible to patch. I had someone offer me decent money so I sold it.  At the time (1996) my thinking was, it's a dime a dozen Rallye hood. Should be easy to replace.

Still looking... I may succumb and put an AMD hood on it.

I bought an extremely clean 1970 hood (no crumple zones). It looks almost like new

What is the fix for the 70 smaller hood hinge holes? Could you just run the smaller bolt and be OK or would there be too much play?

YYZ

IIRC it's only 1/16" difference in diameter, which shouldn't present any issues.
