As the subject says.  Has anyone on here ever disassembled a 72 and up trap door air cleaner and restored it?  I have one I was going to put on the 318 convertible as it has a 4 bbl on it and I am aiming for a stock like look.  The 340 air cleaners for 70 are super expensive and rare and I had this one sitting around.  It's pretty road warn but in decent shape so I would like to blast it and paint or powdercoat it.  The trouble is the vacuum operated trap door actuator looks a little tricky to disassemble and I really like its functionality and don't want to wreck it.

It looks like I can pull the door hinge pin out pretty easily and hopefully detach it from the dashpot, but was wondering how or even if I should try to remove the dashpot.

Any of you guys ever dealt with one of these?
