Just curious about the paint color on top of the cowl. Most seem to be painted the same color as the body, but mine and some others are painted black. It doesn't seem to be a Car color thing since I've seen other Yellow challengers not painted black. Was it an option? Or just an anomaly from the factory?

It's a 1970 only thing, all colours except black should be done...

I asked the same question a while back and was told the R/Ts were black on top.

Yes, only on 1970 cars and the general rule was not on TX9, (I think) EF8 and EB7.

Research I found last year had the black-out on a EB7 car :alan2cents:

Yes, I know of some that got the black out and some that didn't.  The documents show those colors weren't supposed to get the black out cowl, but we know that some did.

From the original cars I have seen the factory was none to neat about it either. Every original car I have seen has black over spray on the firewall down on the ledge by the wiper motor.

My EK2 '70 Slant6 first day issue Challengers cowl area was painted black.  Thanks,   Al

My 70 cuda convertible had original paint with no signs of black out. So I did mine as it was. I have seen it both ways not sure if it's one of those things some got it some didn't. I looked for any sign of it never found a trace.

My AAR's upper cowl was blacked out with Organisol and it was sprayed and crudely taped off before any body color.   Red oxide primer, light gray primer then Organisol.     Along with the insides of the fender aprons, fender tops, door tops and quarter window area.  My guess is they sprayed the laquer Organisol first to prevent problems spraying it on top of enamel paint.  You can spray enamel right over laquer Organisol.

Ha: Once you live with a 70, an E-body doesn't look right without it. Kind of like no rad support blackout.
