Can someone tell me if the margin between the windshield frame and the dash pad is supposed to be painted blackout?

Thanks

Not unless it was that  body color or a T/A, AAR with a black hood.
Correction, I was talking about the entire firewall, didn't notice the thin area you were referring to.

I would. Just in case the stainless trim doesn't cover it completely. I would have done the a pillars also. Look at how crappie the factory trim fits. Not sure if the factory did it.

Here is a picture of my 71 Cuda convertible after the original windshield was taken out.  This went all the way around the opening and looked to be put on with a brush.  I'm not sure if it was paint for the sake the of blackout or just application of primer for the butyl tape.  Either way it kept body color from showing through the windshield in front the dash pad and garnish mouldings.

That area you're referring to is always blacked-out before the dash goes in :alan2cents:

You can see how I've done it in this picture

Thanks guys, I figured I should.  I think I will leave the pillars white though since the pillar covers are white.
Appreciate the info  :bigthumb:

Rather than start a new thread, does anyone have pics of where the color starts / black stops on the outer pillar - firewall area?

Found some old pics that probably tell a story.

The outer edge of the A pillar blackout according to the assembly drawings, "(MOD 27 Only) PAINT THIS AREA FROM 1 INCH BELOW BELT LINE TO FULL LENGTH OF PILLAR"
Drawing 2654909, Section B, Page 15.0

The "MOD 27 Only" note would mean for convertibles only.  :dunno:

Around the window frame there is a reference to using an "applicator or brush" to apply a blackout primer on the windshield prep drawing.
This is on Drawing 2654911, Section D, Page 12.0

The windshield prep drawing shows an applicator with a block and applicator pad mounted to a handle.
