Might work but I doubt testors paint would hold up

Jules once did the phosphate for these items.
I recall it had a color similiar to  Root Beer.

What about doing a spray can of Root Beer?

Hood latches / striker / release lever were brown zinc . Pop up spring and bolts were phostphate. Sure you can use spray paint but personally I think it would not look right  :alan2cents:

This is how I do them ( Jules recipe )

Those look really nice @SF-Resto

Can you tell us what all is involved in the process, how much time is involved in restoring these, and the Lead time typically it takes to do these?

Restoration process for hood latches:

-Complete  disassembling of parts
-Everything is cleaned and  bead blasted
-Parts are polished to remove small dent and pits but I pay great attention to keep all original metal crease and stamping mark /  parts numbers.
-All parts are platted in correct brown zinc, return springs are changed if needed and platted in their correct finish
-Latches / hook, release are put back together with new  original style rivets.

Please contact me for pricing, turnaround is actually in the 8 weeks range ( very busy  )

The hood hook should be body colour.

Say what ? :foul:

Hood hook was not painted, but the loop catch was usually body color...

When I said the hood hook was painted body colour this is the part I was referring to. Am I wrong?

Yes & no...

That part is painted body color, but it's not the hook, it's the loop....

Yea, I agree, I've never heard that part referred to as the "hook" especially when it's bolted to the hood right next to a part that actually looks like a hook  :console:
