In the photo , the rear scoop can be seen to have a black bung, only one however. The front one too. Are there meant to be 2 on each ?
What type of screw/bolt are the ribbed insert secured with ? Assume a Phillips head screw

Thanks

I make it to be a #8 x 32 machine screw with a #6 head.
I am looking at these on my next (hopefully last) order from AMK for fasteners for my '74.
Screw B-10422 - the only think is these are chrome not black - I'll put a dab of paint on it - chrome might suit you

Well Nut B-12935

Since you have one or two well nuts in place try an #8 x 32 screw - I believe that is how I got there.

My contribution to this. In the picture the wellnuts are aftermarket, screw is original (very small head)

Finding a #8 screw with a #6 screw head is the problem.  Chuck up the #8 screw in a drill and spin it while you grind the perimeter and shape the head to the correct size that will fit in the recess in the scoop insert.

#6
AMK actually has a selection of #8s with #6 head (6HD) in machine and tapping screws in flat and oval head.

BUT... Jay Bee's pic got me to pull out one of the OE screws I have and actually it is a #8 with a #4 head  based on diameters in a Smith Fastener reference on line - that will be harder to find. I'll order the 6's and maybe reduce it as you say.

A related question - what is used to hold the inserts to the hood - I was looking at that this afternoon - I have a couple originals also - they look like Palnuts - but they are not the same internal size as the 10-24s that are common on the car. Pins are 0.2" or so - which would make it 7/32" or #12.

Loving the feedback, .

Thanks for the photo Jae Bee, picture worth a thousand words. I may have to come up with a cunning plan to secure my inserts in the meantime.

Like the related question moparroy, that was going to be my next inquiry.

If originality isn't an issue another option is to buy Tony's reproduction inserts that are the 1970 only style. They don't have screw holes but rather mount from the back with PAL nuts. Obviously, the hood scoop has to be removed to mount those.

Those well nuts I've seen at Lowes in the hardware section in the gray slide out drawers , likely the screws too in stainless. Not sure about the 8-32 size but I have bought them at Lowes for another application, worth a look.... :alan2cents:
