What am I missing that fills this oval hole in the right trunk floor?

Burdar

What year?  Cuda or Challenger? The gas tank vent goes there.  The system used depends on the year and if the car has CA emissions.

There are a few pictures here.

It's a '72 Cuda non-California car.

You would have the same as the green car pictured above  :alan2cents:  1972 was the change over year.

Great; apparently that was removed by the prior owner  :notsure: The trunk floor was a mess and all patched up.  Guess I am looking for a tube?  Thing is that the tank (old & new) has 4 tubes on the front of it with hoses going to a chamber mounted to the cross member above it, with a 1/4" vapor line going from it up to the charcoal canister on the radiator support.  So why the big tube in the trunk and how is it plumbed??

If you've got the 4 tube setup, then I don't think you need to worry about finding that other, big tube. Unfortunately, AMD punches that hole in their replacement trunk extensions regardless of the year of your car. My 74 has the same 4 tube/canister as yours, but I, also, have a hole like yours in my own extension. I'm just going to make a block-off plate and screw it into the existing holes, since I apparently had my SEMA invitation lost in the mail, eh and don't need  to worry about keeping the car perfectly stock anymore.

SEMA invitation lost in the mail!  :haha:    My pebble beach invite met the same fate.  :pullinghair:

Correct,  my 73 has that vapor tank mounted on the cross member and I questioned AMD about their trunk extension and they said they only make one so you have to make a plate and weld it closed.

Yea, if your 72 has the canister in front of the tank, then you don't need the tube in the trunk. Like I mentioned, 72 was the model year they changed over so both styles were used. If you have your tank already vented then just make a plate to cover that hole :alan2cents:

Yes, I was pretty careful when I ordered the trunk floor and extensions to pay attention to year and model;  looking back they only show one option for 70-74 for the Cuda.  It did not even cross my mind when I got them and the hole was staring me in the face  :Thud:  Surprised they do even address that with a cover and gasket combo; not that I cannot make one.  I wonder, did Mopar install a omit plug or use a different extension for the later years w/o the hole?

The later extensions never had the oval hole. Do you have before pictures of what your trunk looked like before the repair ?

I found a shot of the pieces... looks like a cover of sorts.
The "blue" metal was actually sandwiched into the floor as a patch  :unbelievable:
Shot of trunk floor from below too   :barf:
