For those who have done quarters before, how close to perfection are you shooting for on fitment? I spent a little time with this one and I'm really happy with it. Every area fits absolutely perfect except for the gap where it meets the Dutchman panel.

I know this area gets a bead of sealant here so I probably have some room for forgiveness. To make this gap any tighter, I would have to spend more time at the corner of the trunk opening. It fits so nicely there though that I'm hesitant to mess with that radius.

This gap is about an 1/8" at the widest and that's with light clamp pressure on the edges underneath. The top surfaces are nice and smooth and level.

The last picture is the other side for comparison of what I started with.

That looks great. If a guy spends any time on them at all you are over-restoring it. Who wants to make a mess like the fqctory did though?

Ok, thanks!  I'm probably doing more fitting than I really need but this is my first rear end so I'm nervous about the tail panel and trunk lid not coming out just right so I figured the better the quarters fit, the better the tail panel and trunk lid will fit.

I'm doing my 4th E Body quarter fitment now. Looks like you've done well. These things don't exactly jump out of the box and fall right into place. That area as well as around the tail panel are the toughest. Make sure you test fit the small quarter trim back at the tail panel to verify correct body line bends. Good work.

Good idea on the trim. I have an extra new set and this would be the time to know. These quarters have given me very little grief. I probably spent 2-3 hours from start to finish on this one side and I was taking my time.

Although the passenger quarter hasn't been fitted like the driver, I was at least able to hang it up for tail panel testing. It wasn't easy alone but I was able to clamp in the tail panel. What it revealed though is that I'll need to play around with the floor before anything gets welded in. The back edge of the floor curves up where the tail panel attaches and I'm going to have to get this just right before I get too much farther along. I don't want to be fighting stuff later.

Trace your original trim onto a piece of cardboard, then lay the repop piece on it. This was a learning experience for me.
