I've been using SEM Trim Black for a long time.  I just ran out and bought a new can.  I just noticed that the new can says SEM Trim Black Ultra #49143.  What I've been using is SEM Trim Black #39143.  Does anyone know what the difference is between these two?  Is the "Ultra" just a superseded product and they are basically the same or are there differences?  I haven't done a test spray of the new stuff.

I tried searching online to compare the two but all I can find is the generic wording put out by the manufacture about the new "Ultra" paint.

Big fan of SEM Trim Black.  I see both numbers still listed on their website.  I see that "ultra" is described as "jet black".  I seem to recall posts in hot rod forums about it being a deeper black.  Maybe your supplier just switched the type he carries?

It was a Sunday and I was trying to find it at a different location then I usually buy it since they aren't open on Sundays.  I'll do a test spray and see how closely they match.  If I have to spray a mist coat on a couple parts I already sprayed...so be it.  Thanks

I am a rattle can painter and I like SEM products, really good stuff; just follow their directions for prep and application and you won't go wrong.

It's extremely durable for a spray paint.  I've read where people have complained it is too "flat" though.  I painted two small brackets last week in the garage and they came out super flat...no gloss what so ever.  The garage was 90 degrees and very high humidity.  I took the parts to the basement where it's cool and misted a little more paint on them.  They turned out perfect.  The Trim Black is really sensitive to heat and humidity changes.

Sems trim is the best paint out of the can I have used.It is perfect for interior trim.If you have a 70 car it is correct for the steering column and dash frame. It is a satin finish.

Here are the results. The Ultra is quite a bit more glossy. I think I'll pick up a can of the regular stuff and mist a light coat on the pieces I sprayed tonight. The Ultra doesnt look bad, I just like the satin color better. I can save the Ultra for the rad blackout or something.
