I recently realized that the problem with my hood not staying up was not that the springs or hinges were bad but that previously someone had bondoed up some hood rust and left it with a lot of extra weight.

Decided to consider a new hood which lead to considering a shaker hood, but I think I have 2 problems.

1 360 with Edelbrock Air-Gap that likely puts the shaker too high?  is there a specific height or are their different bottoms that can adjust for the different heights of carb/intake?

2 DUI distributor, does that get in the way, it sure seems it would as it's much larger diameter and also sits up quite a bit higher than a mopar distributor.

Have you tried different springs?  I know there are about 5 or 6 different size hood springs.  Maybe you have the wrong ones.  It's super hard to tell them apart, expect for the T/A and AAR springs which are easy to spot.

No I haven't tried different springs but the hood is certainly in need of replacement.  It was originally a flat hood 318 so they could be the wrong springs if the scoop hood had different springs and the previous owner didn't swap them. Here are some shots of the underside.  I've just been putting off doing anything for 25 years
