Trunk seal placement

My mistake there is no "Metro" on the bag, just Soft Seal and a image of a Seal (mammal) on the bag.

I have the seal installed and if I do say so myself is looks pretty good for a amateur.  The problem I am having now is the lid contacts the seal (front (window) edge while it is a still a few inches from being closed.  Is this normal; are there some replacement seals that are maybe too thick?  I have had this one new in the bag for a few years but it is fresh and pliable.  It is a Soft Seal by Metro; written in purple letters.  Not much adjustment at all jut forward and backward.  Any thoughts?

Also only the right side hinged is spring loaded with the adjustment slots on the left hinge support; there are no slots on the right hinge support for a left spring.  Is this right for a '72?  A friend has a '70 and both sides are sprung on his lid.  I also noticed that his '70 deck filler panel is almost on a flat plain side to side up front while mine (72) has a slight arch to it side to side.  Looking at my deck lid thought it appears to be arched unless it's a illusion.

Hope those clamps aren't denting your trunk lid I'm sure they're not that tight..

No Sir I checked that; the foam seems to be preventing dents.  Am I the only one that has had to apply pressure to a deck lid after a new seal has been put in?  I have not found any reference to this as yet.  It is a new lid... lots of metal replaced on this project that is going back together.

Hope those clamps aren't denting your trunk lid I'm sure they're not that tight..

I usually have the latch in, so I just close the trunk when I do it

Ok then there is a issue somewhere.  The seal is mushed down pretty good now but when I first installed it you would need some serious force to engage the latch even if it were there.  I adjusted the lid to hinge mounting bolts as best I could.  My striker is supposed to arrive today so I'll see what happens.  The left isn't bad right side needs a lot of force to get the lid down to where the rubber bump stop contacts the the car and I doubt the latch will do it but we shall see.   The problem appears to be up front along the back (channel) edge of the filler panel, like it is too "high".  As I said before the edge of the filler on my friend's '70 is near flat across but mine is definitely arched.  He says he trunk has always leaked though even with a new seal so I don't know if maybe his flat one is a good one to compare to.

I placed a straight edge along the top of the front portion of the seal and there is a definite arc to the seal channel from side to side; is this correct or should the seal be "flat" along its run??     Although the deck lid has a arc to it on the outside the mating surface on the inside for the seal is flat.  Am I missing something here?

Ok then so it isn't me... that channel where the seal glues in is supposed to be "level" across the front of the opening as it is in the rear of the car?   Is that typical of a replacement piece to be off like that, or improper installment, or even wrong filler panel?  What is the difference between a filler for a Challenger and a Barracuda?  I am so saying that is the problem but I am visiting all the causes.  I will leave the hammering on this new paint job to my body man.
