Windshield butyl tape problem

Has anyone experienced their windshield tape melting? Was professionally installed last year and when cleaning the car today I noticed the trim wasn't sitting against the windshield and that the sealer looked smooshed/oozing like between the A-pillar interior trim and windshield.

Can't say I've seen or heard that problem, but it looks like that glass is curved way too much given how it deviates from the trim curve so much at the top and bottom.  Maybe the installer used way more than normal to compensate and the rest had to be smooshed out.  Are you certain it wasn't that way immediately after the install?  It can melt, but it takes far more than any possible ambient temp.  Some installers will use a heat gun to soften it and allow it to compress easier.

Yeah, been there...  I ended up using much cheaper OER brand glass because the AMD stuff fit so badly.  The OER brand fit much better, but lack the Mopar etching unfortunately.

there are a couple of things I can think that would cause that gap.  But the butyl rope being too compressed, and/or the windshield being too curved and not the same as OEM spec seems too unlikely to consider.  If I am right, fixing this will be no small task.

This looks like a vinyl top car with shiny new paint.  If the car had bodywork done to repair rust under the vinyl top and around the windshield, and the existing windshield trim clip holes were covered over, it seems possible when new holes were drilled for the chrome trim clips, they may have been drilled too far out away from the windscreen.  This would cause the trim, once snapped onto the clips, to not seat fully onto the windshield.

If I'm right, correction involves removing the windshield and relocating the clips.  Living with it doesn't stink.  I've known some to use the butyl rope material beneath the chrome trim to hold the trim in place.  This may work, in your case, if you can get the clips rejiggered as to allow the chrome trim to lay flatter.

Nope, all of that was solid and not needing of repair when I did the car. I was highly surprised and pleased that there was no rust under the vinyl top or window surrounds... About the only spots on this car that wasn't rusted

My rear window oozed out last year, I only realized it out after my kid found it and started playing with it getting it all over my brand new custom WHITE seat covers! I cleaned off as much as I could but not sure why it is doing that?

I would go inside the car with a putty knife and maybe a small mirror and see if you can poke around and see if the butyl tape is thinner (compressed) there near the edge vs the other areas.  This may not help fix anything but may tell you what is going on... because if the glass is curved wrong then you may have a high spot near the center of the windshield and the glass may not be even touching the butyl there.

Just curious, did you use rubber spacers at the bottom of the windshield to keep it from moving downward?

Nope! No leaks, even during the downpour home from Carlisle. Yes, spacers were used.

That looks like an awful lot of sealant if you have it squeezed out outside and inside of the car.  I still suspect it was that way pretty much after installation and they used more than normal to ensure it sealed the entire way around.  The low spots would naturally squeeze out/compress more than the middle that is bowed up.
