'71 Hemi Challenger at Carlisle

Hello!  My friends Bill and Judy will be bringing their '71 Hemi Challenger down from NY to Carlisle this year.  I have tried HARD to get them to attend this show for YEARS but they have always declined.  Until now.  They are both getting older and this might be the last opportunity for them to bring the car to the show.

Anyways, here is a brief history of the car.  Bill ordered and purchased the car new at a small dealership (long ago closed) in a small town in upstate NY (current population of  3,092....).  The Scheduled Production Date on the car is June 16th, 1971.  He and Judy went to dates in the car, heavily drag raced the car in Super Stock, refreshed the engine a few times, and eventually restored it.  It is literally "part of the family". 

If you would like the chance to talk to the original owners of a numbers matching '71 Hemi Challenger with dealer paperwork, two build sheets, etc; here is your chance.  They will be there all weekend sitting under their tent behind the car and would love to talk to everyone that stops by. Pull up a lawn chair and relax.  They have got stories to tell.....

Tell them Stan sent you by!  I will be around as well.  I plan on stopping by the E-Bodies tent and saying "Hello!"

Is that like a Cuda chin spoiler on the fender ? :huh:

I heard two pair (1 'cuda & 1 Challenger) were in the trunk when new & all 4 are currently on the car  :o

June 16th must have been a special day at the assembly plant as I've seen a few 1971 R/T Challengers with that SPD including my own Plum Crazy 1971 R/T Challenger.
I wonder how close on the assembly line my car was to this Hemi Challenger.

You will like him! He ordered a Ford, then got this car. I don't want to spoil the story, you will have to get the rest from him.  :ohyeah:

He has all the cool stories, including how his brand new car never arrived at the dealership till September and when it did,  it had miles on it at.
I hope one of the magazines does a story on it...could fill 4 or 5 pages of print on the car history

I think that I am probably as excited (or more!) as Bill and Judi are about bringing the car.  I know that they have had their reservations about the traffic, pulling their trailer, etc. but we are going to make it happen.   Bill has never really been on the internet so he does everything "Old School".  I made their hotel reservations for them and I believe my Dad will either be riding down with them or driving separately but together.  I really hope they enjoy the show. 

My Dad and Judi are first cousins (which I guess that makes me a first cousin-once removed??).  I remember the first time I saw the car.  Probably in '79.  He had finished drag racing it by then but it was still done up in typical '70's fashion.  Aftermarket wheels, etc.  I remember an indoor car show in Watertown, NY around that time.  It was probably in the winter.  It was the time of lots of chrome, mirrors under the cars, weird fluffy white cotton stuff placed around the cars???  He had a bunch of his original time slips laid out around the car.  For some reason, I remember a beautiful '66-67 Green GTO with chromed and gold suspension.  I thought that was pretty cool....  Terry; you were probably at that show!

I am with the other folks that have commented on here.  I am not going to give too many details about the history of the car away.  Swing by and pull up a chair.  I enjoy getting both Bill's and Judi's version of the same stories.....   I keep telling myself that I need to sit down for a few hours with both of them and just record the entire story.
