Not me: It's time to move on I think. Can't afford to live here and pay everyone else's housing and drugs.

For anyone thinking of moving to Northern California I will provide a little perspective:

Every time I drive to work I see out of state plates and think to myself. Here is a sucker, any number of High Tech or other Corporations has talked this bozo into coming to California for a high salary. Thing is that salary will put you at the poverty line when you come here. Rinse and repeat.

Prices here are nuts and are getting nuttier by the minute. Great if you are trying to sell a place, not so great for buyers. Now there are places in the sticks that are cheaper to buy but still 250-400k is still nuts and then there is property taxes plus assessments, gas prices (yep they screw you here), food prices, restaurant prices, etc.

This is why I am thinking of moving in the near future besides the fact that I am sick of living right next to annoying neighbors. I want a 20 acre place where my next neighbor is over 1.5 miles away from me.

No, Northern California is low rent compared to where I live. I am thinking more like Montana or somewhere like that though. The more I know people, the less I want to be around them.

I love California and don't regret moving here from Canada.  It's such a beautiful place with so much to do.  The sticker shock wasn't too much as I moved from a similar tax and social structure in Canada.

I can understand the frustration of Californians.  You're dollar does not go very far here and the gov involvement does remind me of my home and native land.  :canada:

My cousin who lives in Alamo, Ca promised his son a car if he got straight A's...the kid did...so he is now looking for 1-2 yr old new style Challenger for him..   He told me that CA sales tax on cars is 8 1/2 percent and that the going rate for dealer fees, license, title registration is between $400-800.   I live in NC, sales tax is 6% on most goods, but, only 3% on cars, dealer fees and registration is typically $200 here...not $800...   (actual cost of registration is $40 and plate $25 at the DMV).   Average price for regular gas now is $2.65 for the state...     Real Estate taxes are at about 1% of home per year !!

As for income, for me doesnt matter...Im retired and living off of SS and my $401.   That would be the same no matter what state i live in..

I could NOT afford to ever move to Ca...

Holy Moly !!

That's twice my sales tax here in Maryland. Having said that...There are a few States here with no sales tax. Those States just make it up in other ways. There is no way to avoid the Taxman.   ::)

I REALLY want out of this socialist hole. SC is where I'd like to go.

  TEXAS

Not intending for this to sound like I am bragging - just stating some facts for comparison.
I am a college drop out and my wife works part time as manager of locally owned (not by us) gift shop.
Together we make about 155K with no state income tax.
Local sales tax is 8.25%. Tax on car sales is 6%.
We custom built a 3300 sf 2 story house on a 1 acre lot 2 years ago for 360K.
My property taxes run just under 7K per year.

Come on down y`all.

Keeping this non political...
Originally from Wisconsin but moved to California at a young age. Thru all my years here I do not have a single friend or family member that has remained. Only me and the family I made. 22 years in my house now. Make more annually than we ever have. And now barely scrape to survive. California is one of the highest tax burdened states in the union. Regardless of income level.
Life is to be viewed thru the windshield. Not rear view mirror.
You are the only one in charge of your destiny.

I loved visiting beautiful Northern California for 15 days but I would never live under their
Nazi political regime.
