Depending on how solid the car is, how any metal repair was done.....I don't think he's too far off.....If you buy a project 71 Barracuda, you're going to pay $10K-$15K and then by the time you add the shaker hood, louvered fenders, road lamps 17" wheels/tires new stroker motor, 4 speed ...etc...etc... you would come pretty close to his $45K asking price....

Hopefully he has all the parts to complete it

You would need to spend another $35K to finish it with nice paint and interior, exterior trim etc...and you would have a great looking ride that is likely worth $45K -$50K when finished

By your own math, that car will need another $30-$35 k to finish so then will have 75-80K into it and then be worth 40-45. DUH !!

I have always said...the seller isnt crazy for asking that price....the buyer who pays it however is!!

Pass: Lots of hours to check and most likely redo bodywork I bet. Lots of parts to be bought yet too.

I just watched a painted driving 71 bs sell on febo for 24K in new york. Sweet deal. Way better than this one.

I've been waiting for a fender tag readout from the one listed here.

You can say the same thing about 90% of the cars that are restored. It's almost always more expensive to restore a car then what it will be worth in the end. Nothing new here.

40k? Now that's funny! Please show me a restored 71 Barracuda for 40k. A decently restored 71 Barracuda would never change hands today for less than mid 50s. And if it's a well built clone or an original BS car, then never under 60k. I'm not even sure you could buy a mediocre driver for 40k. Project trash cars sell for 25k.

Well, i originally paid $5,000 for my 74 Challenger. It needed restored... but came with a strong rebuilt 360 engine, and reupholstered in white original seats.

I did all of the work myself including overhauling the 904, stripping the car repairing some rust, primering it and blocking the primer. Then took it too a professional painter for the color and clearcoat painting and then cut and buff.

Engine is a built 360 professionally built... I recently removed the Mopar Purple 508 cam for a milder Lunati Voodoo 703 cam. It runs strong ! Anybody want to buy a small block Mopar Purple 508 cam, lifters, springs ? Recently timed it in the zero-60 at 5.8 seconds on the street.

Parts and paint labor ran around 10K so including the original $5k, i have right around $15k into it.. plus i truly don't know how many hours of my retired labor into it. My guess would be between 300-400 hours...

Now i know that its a 74 Challenger not a 70 Barracuda...but..thats ok with me!

You CAN make it affordable...the first trick is to buy the project at a GOOD price... I personally think i robbed the guy i bought it from, but, i didn't hold and guns to his head. You have to shop around...their still out there!! Then do the work yourself as a hobby !! Yes, and when its done you can thump your chest and see what i made!! If you pay too much for the project car, and then bring it to a restoration shop, then you simply have toooooo much money !!

What do you think this is worth with its professionally rebuilt engine, rebuilt 904 torqueflite, 3.23 sure grip, newly upholstered white seats and white interior with black carpeting, dash cap on it that looks good, new tires (235x60x14), flowmaster 40 mufflers, in a "NICE" not perfect plum crazy ...?

You're comparing the value of a 1974 Challenger to a 1971 Barracuda....it's like comparing "apples to oranges" there's no real comparison.

car looks like a $30K project to me... If you want it to look sharp when you are done you will be in to the interior for $5K.. You have $10-$15K in body / paint. You have no idea how well the drivetrain was done. There's a YUGE amount of disassembly / re-assembly to properly finish the body / paint.. Sorry, but $45K is quite a bit on the high side if you ask me.
