HELP! I Need Advice on Authenticating a 1970 V Code Cuda

 Well it's plum crazy so it must be the one you're looking at.. Asking 110k, and it's a color change.
Details matter,  pictures are lacking. 6.5 trim rings on 7" wheel, the right leaf spring is wrong, but the picture of the pass side is lacking,  but they might be on wrong. It appears the rocker gills are transposed also
For that price,  details matter.  Look carefully.

I thought he posted in a different thread about it, and it was F8 green. But I might be confusing that with something else.

11 days ago, Google has one green 440-6 Cuda in Oregon,  but it's at graveyard  cars. So......

Hello everyone! I apologize for the late reply. To my knowledge, the car has never been advertised. I will post some pictures if I end up making a deal on the car. I will keep you all posted. I appreciate all of the advice. I know all of the basics to look for, vin numbers, motor#s, trans #s, skid plate, torque boxes, return fuel line, cowl re welds, ect.

However, there is a lot I don't know so any advice is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't know any experts to help validate the car.

I did see the car in Pasco online, that car looks to be a pretty nice example. The car I am looking at is in Southern Oregon, not far from the CA border.

@Chryco I am not familiar with the holes for the shocks that you are referring to????

I will be sure to check for the oversized sway bar/part number. Thank you!


I have seen 440 6-pack cars with and without torque boxes online, so I am assuming not ALL 440 six pack cars had boxes front and or rear?

Sorry for the late reply. So, I went and looked at the 70 Cuda. Looked like a great car at first glance, however I the car was not what the owner thought it was. The Fender tag was reproduction/reproduced. There were several obvious mistakes on the tag such as missing standard option codes found on all Cudas,such as M-88 tail panel trim and J-45 hood pins. Another mistake on the tag was that the interior code was S6XP (sport trim). Standard on a Cuda is the h/high trim interior code, not standard. The owner claimed it was an og FJ6 Sassy Grass green 70 Cuda which is super rare, however the interior code was XP (peacock and black) which to my knowledge was not available on the Cuda, and it would not have come with FJ6 anyways.

No build sheets (no surprise). Was missing fender trim although this by itself is minor.

Conclusion. Probably started out as a V code Cuda, possibly in an unattractive color and an automatic. The builder of the Cuda was trying to pass it off as something it's not.

To my knowledge the current owner purchased the Cuda this way?  I didn't say anything to him about my findings as I didn't want to upset him, he was convinced that the Cuda was legit, he seemed like a nice guy.

This is the second fake or rebodied Cuda I have run across in a row. It is pretty alarming that there IS a lot of fake or fake optioned Hemi/V Code Mopars out there and the owners don't have a clue... Kind of a bum deal if you ask me.

Here is the Mcode plate with the vin blocked out.  Check it out, let me know if I missed anything!  :notsure:

It doesn't surprise me that most people don't care, they just think they own a cool car, and that's enough to make them happy :burnout:

If it was a nice car and cheap enough, then heck, why not...buy it, chuck the tag in the garbage and away ya go :stayinlane:

It does appear to be a nice car, however the owner does not know its fake, therefor wants BIG $$$$

That's the only problem I would have with it....the lack of a broadcast sheet and a legit fender tag have to be reflected in the asking price...being a V code car, or at the very least a V code dash tag  :haha: does still have some value though. :alan2cents:

Man, it is crazy how many details need to be vetted when validating these cars - I am thankful for the knowledge shared here, helps me avoid these pitfalls as I put mine back together to as original as I can.  Also makes you take note how important documentation is when putting a car together so you can share exactly what it is, or isn't.

@plum crazy rt, I am not so sure it is a bad thing to share your knowledge with the seller, as the saying goes, you don't know what you don't know.  It certainly can be done in a respectful way, and might even be helpful for the seller to be armed with as much info as possible.   :alan2cents:
