the engineering drawing makes no mention of multiple colors or a method for deleting the hood "R/T" decal, but it has been heavily REVISED over its lifespan

Keep in mind, the hood lettering could have easily been removed by original owners...some people think it's big and gaudy and looks out of place :dunno:

My hypothesis is the hood decal is tied to the V6* code. No V6* = no hood decal.
Still haven't found anything in factory literature explicitly tieing the hood decal to the V6*.

Here are some other examples, besides the Hot Rod article, that I found without a hood decal.
The orange car is/was a 13,000 mile car with V68, per the article I found.
Sorry no pics of fender tag.

White Challenger is V5X and no hood decal showing.
Second owner who claims to have known the car since the 80s and bought it in 91.

The part number for the hood decal is 3443057. It does not show any color options in the assembly drawing or in the parts manual.

All of the side stripe part numbers have a dash and a number at the end to designate the colors.
-7 white
-9 black
-3 orange
-1 chartreuse

Anyone have a record of a non-black striped car with a black hood decal from the factory? I have not seen any.
All of the V6* cars in original paint I have seen are V6X black striped cars.

The 3443057 hood decal was also used on 71 Chargers.
I'm going to take a look at those next to see how the hood decal was used.

Flatdad

Just to muddy the waters a little... with all the non-r/t 340 Challengers built, the factory would be well used to sending cars out with a 'power bulge' hood & no r/t callout as normal.

The 71's could be bought with a 340 in an R/T actually. Not in 70 though.

Does it have a rallye hood and more importantly does it have the R/T hood decal?
