I need a water pump plug like the one pictured [blue plug with 3/8 square hole]. Its for my 1970 440. Does anyone know the thread size? Also who sells them? Thanks

Check the year of your pump.  I think the hole sizes changed from year to year.  I know in 1970 they have different holes (if yours is an original 1970 pump housing).  You might be able to find a pipe plug that fits at Home Depot or Lowes.  You can also check your local auto parts store as they probably will have them too.

Looks like the hole in my housing is about 3/4". I was hoping to find an OE style plug.

Hydraulic shop should have them.   :alan2cents:

Yup: Easy to find a plumbing plug in that size but they will have a square on top that a pipe wrench can grip to loosen or tighten.

I have one here in my junk drawer in my toolbook if you can't source one locally...

Thanks Brad, I sent you a PM. Hardware store only has brass plugs that look totally incorrect.

Also used by various makes for the diff plug?

Just googled it and Dorman supplies them so any jobber should be able to get it....

Here is what I have, it's yours if you need it but check with your local jobber for the dorman ones as postage will likely be the same or more than a 5 pack of new ones? Let me know...?

Thanks Brad, that looks like the right one. I just placed an order online from Napa for the 3/4" Dorman pipe plug. Looks good in their picture. Hope it works. Thanks again everyone for your help!

That is a 1/2 " NPT or i/2" pipe plug. All jobber shops should have them.
