Does anyone have a detailed breakout of the 1971 Challenger convertible production numbers?  The set of white books I have aren't very detailed for '71.

Specifically - how many were made of 6 cyl, 318, 340 and 383?

Thanks!

83         225 slant 6 convertibles
1774     v8 convertibles

The overwhelming majority of v8's for '71 are 318-2bbls

318-2bbl > 340-4bbl > 383-4bbl > 383-2bbl

I have VINs for almost 10% of the 71 challenger convertibles built (about 180 cars), so a pretty decent sample size.

For some reason the breakdown for the different V8's in not known I believe. :dunno:

Are the 71 Challenger convertibles unusually desirable? A couple years ago, I knew a guy who was trying to sell a 318 version. It was tempting since all metal work was finished and ready for final body and paint. The only reason I shied away was I didn't want to hunt down hard to find stuff like a grille.

Personally I prefer '71s but everyone has their preference.  I don't mind a 318 either but some only see that as an oppportunity to build a restomod or tribute something.  :dunno: Hard to go wrong with any e-body convertible but then some don't care for a droptop. I think they are the sweetest car on the road.

 Were there any 318 four speed?  :fingerscrossed:

Not in 1971.

Any 'vert is worth money.  /6 and 318 and 383-2 cars are great because you can restomod the heck out of them.

340/383-4 cars, I would try to keep it as stock as possible w/the exception of putting on disc brakes (if not there already) and maybe a FAST/Holley/FiTech TBI EFI for better driveability.

I have the numbers, but won't be home until Sunday. Hang tight.

Ok - here we go:

1870 Challenger Verts shipped to U.S. Dealerships in 1971. 77 Slant 6's, 1323 318's, 176 340's, 127 383-2's, and 167 383-4's.

Again - these are just the 1971 Challenger Convertibles that were shipped to U.S. Dealerships. There were many more that were sent to Canada and Europe.

Sorry Superdave, the report my friend has does not show any 318 4spd car built, just 3spd cars.
