Those are serious tires under the cars. Looks very mean. I got 275 at the back now and may be 285 is possible but those are wider.

I like my 73 tail lights with agent panel and the chrome moldings the way it is but don't mind painting the front grille chrome molding to flat or satin black because it is pitted.

Thanks all for the conversation, always interesting to hear a variety of opinions. I feel like the 72-74 always get bashed.

I agree with blacking out the front panel on a 72-74, that's what I've done to mine and it looks great. Granted, my entire car is black so it's entirely blacked out. My car is currently satin but plan is to eventually go gloss and when I do, will probably keep the front and rear in satin for a contrast.

:iagree: And most of the time it's by other E-body owners.

QuoteThen you gotta deal with the extra weight of the 72-74s

99% of the weight is in the bumper reinforcements.  They are huge.  If you are tucking in the bumpers to the 70-72 position, most people do away with the reinforcements. Problem solved.  Here are some pics I saved of nicely done 72-74s.

Maybe the moderators and administration should consider a forum titled "Protouring/ Restomods" because it has stirred a lot of interest and activity.  This forum addendum would give credence to ever so worth building e-bodies, utilizing new and improved technology and design.

I agree. But I like this 72-74 restomod group. Maybe one for each make/model and year variation?

I myself like Restomods or more specifically Pro-touring builds. I've always been a hot rodder rather than a restorer. Both have their place of course and both are awesome. My build is Pro-touring with modern 3G Hemi, 6-speed, etc. but I started with a car without any good history (state issued VIN and no fender tag or build sheet). About the only thing stock is the sheet metal but that's just me. I love seeing both. I personally like "valuable" cars restored and the more mundane from the factory modified. It fills both needs. But either are great as this is a hobby where anyone can do anything they want and we can enjoy the fun watching the build and the satisfaction of the owner with their car.

I like all the years. Each has its place and price point. I'm building a 71 Challenger but if I were to do it again I'd pick a 72-74 Cuda. If there were a Restomod or Pro-touring section, I'd definitely support that but I also like viewing all builds and really appreciate the nut, bolt and paint splotch restorations as they are especially hard to do correctly.

Where I have issue with the conversions to look like 70-71 is you will always have to be explaining that it is not what it looks like.
Your car, your deal. Make it what you want.  Mods for purpose is what is my driving force.
Anything that will be of some additional value will be proper performance changes. We have reached the time where new cars out perform the old. Bringing it up to semi modern will be the best possibility of $$$ return. Do it for the love not the dollars.

Another cool looking 72-74 front end in my opinion.  I think this one uses a Randy front spoiler.

I don't care for shaved handles and side markers on these cars.  The door handles are already flush mounted and look custom right from the factory.  The 70-71 side markers are already flush as well.  I did see one car that flush mounted the 72+ style side markers and that was a nice custom touch.

I would like to see someone light up the entire side marker instead of just one little section being lit.  That would be a nice custom mod that no one would see until the lights were turned on.  Fill the entire back side of the lens with LEDs maybe.

I like the way you think.  I'm going to be tweaking the panels on my 73 Cuda and I'm going to look into flush mounting the side markers.

I'll also be tucking the bumpers to the '72 look, like the one I had in high school oh so long ago.

I am currently working on fabbing up some flush mount markers for my 74 Challenger. If they work out the way my brain is telling me. I will post up the how to.

That'd be incredible!

I like Bullits post. It just shows how far we haven't come in styling over 45 years. No wonder we still love these cars after so many years.
