Anyone here done a full blown restoration in their suburban 2 car garage?  If so, any tips on making it workable?

I am building a loft in mine, about 200 SF, to get as much off the floor as possible, but I have 2 teenage kids, and my wife has enough decorations for every holiday to decorate the entire block so space is at a premium.  I have a full size Snap-On tool box, 60Gal compressor, plus tons of woodworking tools (chop saw, table saw, routers, etc.)

Thinking of stripping it down and putting it on a wood jig to be able to turn it on its side, looking for any tips or creative ideas you may have used - thanks

I'd rather not talk about it. You do what you can, organization is key. For flipping your body on it's side you can make front and rear rollers out of wood that mount to the bumper brackets and roll it up 90 degrees.

Worked in a little bigger than a 2 car garage (4) but built myself something I could wheel the car around on to get work on it outside of the garage to get more room when the weather was decent enough.

And if you really are feeling adventurous and risking your life, you could sit your car up on its side using jack stands and tires. Not that I would recommend in the slightest.

How about 40+ ground up restorations in a 2 car garage that is only big enough for one and maybe a half cars ? :console:

It's doable.  Not fun or ideal, but doable.  I did everything myself in mine other than paint.  If I had the skill, I would have attempted that in there too.  I don't have any 2 car garage specific advice though; you're going to have to organize and store parts with the constraints that you have.

I started my Barracuda`s restoration in the driveway where I was living and finished it in my two car garage when I bought my first house, it had a gambrel roof second story which was great for storage as I usually had another car I was working on in the other bay. I have done numerous other cars in my two car garages and currently doing my `70 road runner in one. It`s pretty cramped with two vehicles in there and I`m loving that I was able to move my Barracuda to the under house bay so I have both bays for it. I did the whole Barracuda`s body and paint with a Sears Craftsman 30 gallon 5hp compressor, no lift, no rotisserie in my barn board garage, open walls and ceiling.

Wait till @Brads70  posts a pic of his restoration spot. You will then realize you have lots of space... :))

LOL I thought this was normal? I do have a double car garage but half of it ( maybe more?) is taken up with machine shop equipment. Mill, Lathe, bandsaw, radial arm drill, various welders, likely another half a car in spare parts, etc... I have painted an engine bay and a trunk but not an entire car. Built lots of stuff in here though. It's been "fun" but wow I'd really like a bigger spot to play!  I did build a nice garden shed in the backyard that I store a lot of parts in.

Here are a few I just took tonight....  tight and not optimal, but it can be done! :notsure:

You bet....don't think the neighbors would appreciate the fumes  Still the cars get completely disassembled and reassembled here with all the components also being restored here.
