I'm thinking about getting a fender tag made closer to what was there from the factory. I know I can't be 100% accurate with no fender tag or build sheets to start with. I've narrowed it down REAL close to what it could've been. The order date would be a for sure unknown. I have 192190. 192197 is B12 (Wednesday) order number 103425. 192199 is B15 (Saturday) 024890 so order number is a no go. Is the date B12 & B15 true calendar dates or would the B12 be the 12th work date?

It looks like the BS23 for 1970 had these codes: J45, M21, M25, M31, M88, N41, & M42 in Nov & Dec except one car didn't have M31.

I only see the J54 hood in January up cars other than the cars that had N96

It looks like A01 cars had a L31 on the fender tag.

Maybe some thoughts please? Don't laugh at me. I'm still trying to learn

Thank you, Joe

No laughing at all, it's a very complex subject. I've done some off and on research on them over the years, I even make reproductions, but I don't have enough knowledge to help folks build them in any way, so I always point them to this site and the for*bodies sites for research.

Difficult task indeed. I have several Cudas and also tried to reverse engineer one tag. Took a lot of phone calls with experts and even so, since my tag recreation, I have already noticed 2 errors. I guess it's a continuous learning process.
My understanding is that the B12 is indeed the 12th of February and not the 12th working day.
I have two 1970 Cudas with both A01 and L31 both LA based assembly. I have a third 1970 Cuda which only has A01 and not L31, but this is Hamtramck assembly. (However, I cannot 100% vouch for the Hamtramck fender tag so I would place an astrix on this and discard) So it appears that your hypotheses about A01/L31 would still be good so far. Hopefully others may chime in.

Without an original build sheet or fender tag I think you are just shooting in the dark.  At this point, I would just put a fender tag on there that says "Don't bother looking, I built it the way I want it." Also might present incorrect information to the next buyer.

The next owner wouldn't get the fender tag I would recreate. I've done window stickers for other cars I own & the stickers will go in the shredder once the cars find new care givers. I don't do this to hurt the hobby...just for me...Joe

As far as I have seen, A01 Always has L31.  But, ya never know.  Someone might have ordered ao1 and wanted the L31 deleted.
How do you know your car had ao1?
Is your car an e or a B plant?
Or, have you listed the vin somewhere?

There are many tags that do not have one of just about everyone of those codes.  except M21.
I can't explain why, but I have seen many without one or the other.

It's a "B" assm plant. Most of the A01 pieces were there. I was missing the map light assm. All the harnessing was all there. I'll send you a pm....Joe

I had a tag made for mine years ago, as it looked naked without one.  My car is an original 383 car, with a 440 in it.  The tag I had made says it is a 383 car like the VIN, so definitely shows the car is not original.  I used my birthday for the build date and order number.

I thought of that also. I might just put "70cuda" in that space....Joe
