How alight hood left and right?

See pics below. I need to remove the hood so I can strip the engine compartment but wanted to get the hood marked for reassembly.  Unfortunately I can't even close it as the gaps on each side are way off.

Is this because of the fenders or are there settings on the hinges?

It's also a tad bit too far forward.

Thanks

Looks like hinges are not adjusted correctly or they are worn out at the pivot points? Looks like the drivers side needs to go back some?

Move the hood forward on the passenger side hinge.
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

I'll pull it back and see if it helps align. There seems to be quite a bit of play in the hinge. I'll check my dart to compare and see how much play that one has or if the Cuda is just worn.

Can't move it forward any as it's already too far forward.

I'll try the driver side back some as maybe that will help shift it some. As you can see it's not aligned straight.

I just wasn't sure if there were left and right adjustments or  the hinges only slid up/down and forward/back.

I recommend you have a friend help you with this. Obviously everything is off so there is nothing to mark. I would go ahead and remove the hood to do what you plan to the engine compartment.

When you are ready to put it back on, it needs to be aligned and it's not that hard if you have help. The bolts holding the hinge to the hood allow the hood to slide forward and back. The bolts holding the hinge to the fender allow the hood to move up and down at the back edge. Snug all bolts and gently lower hood. Figure out which direction to go. Then open hood and with the helper holding the hood, loosen the bolts move the hood a tiny amount then snug back down. Keep making tiny adjustments until you are happy.

When you get it as good as you can, look at the fenders and see if they need adjustment as well. You can move a fender in or out at the front or back to create equal gaps. You may need to move the entire fender forward or rearward to get it to line up equally with the front or back edge of the hood.

For example, looking at the pic you showed us, I would loosen the bolts holding the hinge to the hood on the driver side and slide the hood back on that side only about an 1/8 inch. Then snug down and see what else needs attention. It's a process.

Perfect, thanks for the advice.

You didn't say if it once fit correctly. If it did, then it should again unless the hinges are wiped out (which I doubt).

Looking at your pics again, it looks like it is a little tight on both sides near the windshield. If it is, you might need to loosen the fenders at the back edge and ease them out a tiny bit. Not that hard but there is one bolt underneath near the upper door hinge that is tricky to reach.

Left side (driver's side) back! usually a two person job to adjust a hood.  :alan2cents:

the hinge bolts allow a little movement front to back on the inner fender but very little   & by sliding one side or the other of the hood  forward or back in the slots in the hinges you can adjust the angle of the hood a little .
the rear of the hood is basically aligned by the hinges & if the hood is too tight to the fender at the rear the fender needs to be adjusted so start at the rear of the hood & fender & get it even with the windshield & work your way forward spacing the fenders & header panel so it is even with the hood

@B5fourspeed was asking about this to me yesterday.

The hood goes flush, then it can go down if pressed on on one corner I recall him saying.

My hinges were fine so I didn't have any recommendations to give to him.
