Hi All,

Was kind of bored today, so watch Jay Leno's "Favorite American Muscle Cars" episode on youtube and spotted an ad I haven't seen before for the 70 Challenger Hemi on the wall.  Anyone seen this ad before?

Yes it's very unPC but still looks cool.  So looked high and low for it in google and to no avail.  So thought I'd make it up.

Took a screen grab of Jay's wall at 1:35:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihQC4tQ7fK8

Then did some Photoshoping (not very good sunset) and used the 1973 Rallye ad for some of the text, which looks similar.  Hope you think it looks ok.  The ads now on the internet at last.

Kinda got to wonder if Jay's ad wasn't "created" by someone in a print shop....  The car looks just like the one he has that was given to him by Garth Brooks & I find the print suspect since from my memory the Hemi never had Electronic Ignition and certainly not in 70.... 71 340 was the first engine to get Electronic Ignition.... When I first saw that in your ad I thought you'd added it as you mentioned using a later ad to fill in the blanks but then I looked at Jay's ad & it mentions Electronic Ignition too....

Or maybe someone else had the ad made up and sold it to Jay, as he refers to it disapprovingly.

Or maybe it was pulled by the ad agency in 1970 for being sexist.  Though they did the same ad that appeared in 73 for the Rallye.  I'm confused!

I'm certain I've heard Jay talking about having it made to match his car. It's actually a 72-74 ad originally.

 71 340's with electronic ignition??

RUNCHARGER

Yeah that is based on a later ad as Alan has stated. A Hemi Challenger was never marketed as a handling machine, even Chrysler knew what it was to be used for.

Seriously Cody? Just send him a nice set of pics of your GarageMahal and your cars and express your avowed admiration for his machines and garage and then extend an invitation for him to come and see yours! 10 bucks says he'll respond if he gets the message!  :fingerscrossed:
PS- I call "Shotgun" if he says bring a co-conspirator!
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

That's the one I used get the text from.

So the Hemi ad is fake. No wonder I couldn't find it!  Thanks for the info.

It must have been later in the 1971 model year as my 71 Challenger has the dual point distributor.

I really like those old adds--especially the ones with the Scat Pack bee.  Saw an add for this book but have not got it yet.  Waiting for Santa.     :D

It was an option that started mid year in 71

I want to see Jay's place so bad!!!

I went there in early 2000's when a friend sold a 58 300D to one of his employees, Per.  I think all are ads with his colors and some picture him driving.  Was an experience I'll never forget.  He drives everything.
