The Black Ghost - true legend or big fish tale?

A  lot of hype over the Black Ghost Hemi Challenger that use to street race, supposedly never lost a race etc.(heard that from every street racer that ever lived    ). Is it a true legend worthy of all the hype or just another muscle car that did some street racing back in the day?

i met gregory and talk to him , realy nice guy , i think this car deserve all the hype and it doesn't matter if he loose some races back in the day , the story is realy cool and for me it's The Ebody  equivalent to the Bullit Mustang

Who knows, but it's still a very cool car... and a time capsule.  Seems like a believable story, not to mention, most stories are embellished a little.  Pretty cool that the guy bought it new and never sold it, but rather, passed it on to his son.  May he RIP. 
I'd love to have that car.  I'd leave all the patina on it (and maybe re-arch the rear springs) and drive it the way it is.  Of course, I am partial to gator top cars having one myself.  A rare car indeed.

I stand alone on the face of this Earth as being the only person who would love to see this car fully restored...I'm not a 'history buff" and I prefer my cars to be straight and shiny, not all full of dents and looking like crap  and I doubt very much it "never" lost a race...

I have a stock 426 Hemi and as many of you might agree,  it feels and sounds amazing, but it just ain't that quick.  I'm sure even in the 70's there had to be a bigger dog now and then.

You are not alone - if I ever found a car in similar condition I would take some nice "as found" photos, maybe frame one and hang it up, and then strip the car down and restore it. I might add back some "Day Two" mods it had on it if they were cool but could care less about barn dirt, dents, scrapes etc.

I like a good story too. Classic "bench racing" at it's best. As it is with these type of stories, they slowly get better every time that they are told!! 

Now let me tell ya about my Cuda that I terrorized the streets of Sacramento with in the early '80's ... never been beat ... not even by Bob Falfa and his screaming '55 shoe-box Chevy ...

Really kool car and nice family story around it.  But to say it was the king of street racing....especially in Detroit just can't be true.  Being from Se MI and knowing quite a few older car guys that did street race a lot in the area at that time.....a stock hemi car wasn't going to be king....period.

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I read the articles and watched the documentary. I don't get all the hype. It's a cool car. I like the stories that go along with it, but don't stories like that apply to most muscle cars if you interviewed the original owner or their family? The family seems nice but his kid who has it now doesn't really seem like a car guy to me (which is fine, not everyone wants to learn about the mechanical aspects of it all). Stories always get embellished. My brother swears up and down his buddy had a big block (basically stock) B body that pull the from tires a few inches off the ground with street tires...
