Mr Cuda

Does anyone have a picture of a 71 Plymouth V5Y, or even a V5X moulding.
I'm really looking for detail.  Of course, 30 years ago,  I peeled all the damaged stuff off, and... well you know.
Is V5Y all gold or just down the center?

Down the center.
Correction, it was the Challenger with the aluminum channel molding with a slide in insert.
I only owned 1 'Cuda many years ago with the side molding ( which I loved for parking lot dent/ding protection) and it was factory ,I was the 2nd owner and it was a glued/taped on strip.
No pinstripes. Can't see the factory doing such a tedious option. A( Also would have to have been a $5. item back then)

Cuda is very different from challenger.

70 has a painted pin stripe around the actual molding.  I am unsure if challenger had the pin stripe but assume it does as the books say 70 has pin stripe.

Attached is my favorite v5 molding.  It's a V5R on a TX9.  Awesome color if the interior is red of course.

Also attached is a V5F (green) on a 71 challenger which doesn't have a pin stripe.

Notice the challenger does not have pin striping around the v5r.  Not sure about the history of this car, as in repaint or not.

Whereas the Cuda above is supposedly original pin striping and original paint.

Also, notice that the challenger is a stainless steel molding that has the rubber inset in the stainless.
The cuda is a glue on product that does not have any stainless holding it to the car.
This is one of the reasons that finding the Cuda v5 any color is about impossible.
I've been looking for some time now and can not seem to find any cuda moldings.

First picture is a V5W pin striping without the molding.
Would like more pictures but often times owners don't want to post more pictures when I inquire.

Second is a 70 V5x .  with original pin striping.  Supposedly.

This picture is of some aftermarket v5x moldings that were glue on but not original.  As I understand it anyway.

I forgot about this one.
Convertible Fe5 on E4 with V5X including the pin striping.
No other info on this sweet ride unfortunately.

1970 Barracuda V5_ mouldings are adhesive have a decal stripe (not paint) around them
1971 Plymouth V5_ mouldings are adhesive and are multi-color w/o additional striping

Challenger V5_ mouldings are bright aluminum with a vinyl insert & attached with fasteners

the above red challenger mouldings do not look like the factory pieces

This probably doesn't help much, but it is a 71 and is a V5Y.

Yeah, I  asked about 71 plymouth,  as I knew dodge was different.  70 was simple, as I  recreated that on several barracudas I did.
There was an aftermarket rubber adhesive strip that was almost the same profile, then I added  the pinstripe.
My orange 71 had a moulding like what Dan posted, but the chrome had peeled off, and a repaint in 81 left it compromised.  They masked it off.
That moulding had a detail that looked like stitching in the valley near the chrome edge, but not like the pictures. It was narrow almost like 70 width, and taller.
Not that aftermarket moulding in rolls is available anymore,  or that I would put it on, but I just wanted to see what the 71 style looked like.
Now I bothered  to check my other car, saw it was coded for V5Y.  It was paintedin 79 and had some funky aluminum moulding with slide in rubber strips and separate ends.
Wrong,  junk, and to add insult,  it had tiny screws holding it on.
What was the appropriate width on the factory moulding? I would guess a strong 1"+

Cudahunter,  that c body moulding would be completely different as each piece is aluminum  trim and uses clips.  I got a 71 fury and others.

As I recall from reading, 5/8" wide 3/8" tall.  Don't quote me on that but that is what I recall.  I have some challenger v5x that I can possibly check but then I would only be assuming that it would be similar.
I have some more v5x coming in the mail a little later this month.  Challenger of course.

Is your v5Y fender tag on a fy1 car?  What color car?  White, black or yellow?  Sounds cool.

Cudahunter,  you know me, it's cuda, not challenger. Challenger trim is ridge, barracuda is a roll of adhesive backed vinyl.
I would hope its not more than 7/8", but Dan's sample picture looks wider.  So little pictures available of 71 trim, that I have to ask for some.

the edges of the 1971 Plymouth V5X moulding is white, NOT chrome
wonder if the V5Y is gold/white or gold/black ??? :notsure:
