Where did you find your first E-Body?

saw this "plum crazy" 440 4bbl Challenger R/T on a side street in LaJolla CA in '83 - I want one! (wonder where it is now?)
bought my first car in '84 - 1969 Cougar

after/with a couple B, C, & F-bodies (& Oldsmobiles) but NO E-body ..... I finally caught an E-body the summer of '93
saw this ad in MCG June '93 - bought it the weekend after Carlisle '93 & still have it, but it's in a million pieces

I had a 67 Belvedere II and really wanted an AAR so I set out to get one around 2006. I contacted Wes Cree and him keep an eye out. I found one on CL in Ohio and called right away. We worked out a deal and he brought it to me. It was an F8, auto, numbers matching, original paint, rusty project but it was complete.

Shortly after it arrived Wes called and said that he found an AAR for me. After hearing the details I had to buy it. FJ6 w/4-speed! This one was complete with a warranty block and non-numbers trans. It also had been painted brown with a yellow pinstripe added.

A few years later I decided to buy a race car and go road racing so the F8 car had to go. It was sold to a guy in FL who restored it nicely and converted it to a console shift.

A few years after that a guy called offering silly money for the FJ6 car. I bought his sob story and sold it to him. He sold the engine and trans and then flipped the car. I found it in PA 3 years ago and it had just sold on ebay and then caught on fire before it could be picked up.

I missed having an AAR so a couple years ago my gf and I went to Ohio in a snowstorm on Valentine's Day to get an original paint EK2, numbers matching 4-speed AAR. I won't be selling this one! Now I need to find a T/A to with the AAR.

Wow, what a story!  You've had some cool 6 pack cars!     Don't let that EK2 go.  But if you do, I have a few sob stories that I hope would get me a chance to buy it.        I LOVE Orange E-Bodies.

Here's the AAR after he finished it. The restoration was done by one person in a single bay garage in FL. I think that it came out great!

bought my first car in '84 - 1969 Cougar

I'm fond of those 69 Cougars.   Before I had a car, I spent a lot of time riding around with my cousin during high school, in his 1969 Cougar with a 351.
We had a lot of fun with it.
He flipped it end over end into a field one evening and walked away, pretty upset, but ok.

There was a guy in my home town back in the day that had a really nice Eliminator with a Boss 302 in it. Quite a rare car from what I understand. Our town only had less than 50,000 people but we had great cars back then. I guess guys could have a good winter of logging or a great summer of mining and they'd go pay cash for whatever car they wanted. We had quite a few Hemis, a few wing cars, a Boss 429, 427 Corvettes you name it.

 I started out as a chevy fan.  Then one day a gear head buddy went to California and brought back a yellow challenger T/A. That car was the coolest car and I instantly became a Mopar fan. About 2 months later I was delivering major appliances for K-Mart, driving out in the country south of Boise and saw a car sitting in a field. It had a 2x4 leaning against the hood with a for sale sign nailed to it. That's all it said.  So after doing my delivery I stopped by and talked to the kid selling it. This was a Friday afternoon.  I ended up giving him $10.00 to hold it till Monday (all the money I had) and said I'll be back.  I then had to spend the weekend begging and pleading with my dad to cosign a loan for me. He was a chevy man also and said I  shouldn't buy a dumb Plymouth. Finally wore him down and first thing Monday we went to the bank.  Couldn't get back out there fast enough. The guy wanted $1500.00 for the car but we settled on $1,200.00. Payed him, threw a battery in it and took off. He said the car had been sitting there for a couple months and only 2 people had looked at it.  This was July 1977 so these cars were just bought--beat on and abused--then sold cheap. It is the 71 Cuda I still have today. Just amazed it survived the stupidity of my youth without to much damage.

I searched for months and found some listings in Trading times and the newspaper but most were already sold.  I did look at an AAR that was priced more than I had saved.
Finally a T/A was advertised in the Chicago Tribune in December that I was able to buy.  It snowed almost constantly that winter and I only got to drive my "perfect" car for a week or two before I parked it and had to hitch rides to school until March when the pile of snow it was buried under finally melted!
So my first car was my first E body.
And somehow we both survived, as I still have it today, though most of the sheetmetal has been replaced.

That's Cramton Bowl, it lies along Madison Avenue, the main road through downtown Montgomery. It received a huge facelift in 2011 and where that photo was taken now stands a modern multi-sport facility, really looks nice. But back then it was just a wide open parking lot.
