Challenger CONVERTIBLE interior panels...

So, FedEx wants 2500 bucks to ship these to me.
Canada post wants 1000 bucks to ship the panels down here. 

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to ship these without the shipping costing more than the parts? 

I find this to be ridiculous.  I've shipped whole cars with box's of crap for 2500 bucks.

I've been trying to say the cost of shipping stuff from Canada was ridiculous for years, people only made fun of me... :looney:

Well, I didn't make fun. Aside from joking that you won't ship anything.
I'm not surprised it costs more as I've actually had a few things shipped out of canada now that weren't crazy like that.  This just seems ludicrous.

Crack doesn't smoke itself.  Those prices are crazy.

The easiest way to go might be this:

- contact ForwardAir

- reserve one of their motorcycle crates (it's a small, metal, shipping container that will fit a Bagger or a Goldwing)

- pack the container full of the Mopar parts.  The panels can go into separate cardboard boxes

- ForwardAir is actually a trucking company and will bring the crate from Windsor to one of their terminals in Colorado

All told, it'll be a few hundred bucks but the parts will be safe and it's kind of hard to crush things in a steel crate.

I got a quote recently to send an amplifier from Toronto to LA.  4x10 cab, almost 100#.  $190 terminal to terminal in my own wooden crate.

There's a bit of extra running around on the pickup end as you'll probably have to do your own customs clearance -- but for large or awkward parts, they're hard to beat.  Hoods, fenders, etc.

I sent a few 2-stroke race bikes to CA with the crates packed full of spares and bodywork.  All things considered, it was pretty easy.

Vlad...out of curiousity, was there any brokerage fees in involved ?

Obviously its the rear panels that have the value here.
The Fed-Ex and Canada Post prices are so high because of oversize items.
I assume he's boxed the door panels, seat backs and kick panels together and the rear panels boxed separate.
I'd see if he could get a quote on just the rear panels boxed first.
Although smaller,  I had a 36" x 14" x 12" box going to Georgia valued at $400.00 weighing about the same as your rear panels,  and it cost me $70.00 insured and delivered via Canada Post with no brokerage fees.
Still a lot higher than if I'd shipped from NY where I would in normal times.

I see those rear panels are pretty worn. I'm holding on to my original panels off my Challenger convertible that are worn also. Is there any value to them? I know legendary wants a fortune to restore them.

@mccannix  with ForwardAir, you have a bit more control over the brokerage process.  They do offer brokerage services now, but otherwise, the recipient has to deal with clearing the item through customs.  It's a bit of extra running around, but not really that difficult.

Their terminals are located near airports, so it's usually a short hop to customs at the airport cargo terminal.

When stuff has arrived for me in Toronto, the process has been something like this:

- am notified that the crate is at ForwardAir

- pick up the waybill etc. from ForwardAir -- drive 2 minutes to Canada Customs at Toronto Airport

- present the paperwork the same way you would as if you were driving back

- pay any duties/taxes, Canada Customs provides a receipt (and B15 if it's a vehicle)

- bring the paperwork back to ForwardAir

- package is released, bring it home.


A former friend once had some Polyglas air freighted in from Europe to Buffalo (it was a really good deal for some F60-15s) and the process was similar for US Customs at Buffalo Airport.  Still had to pay HST when crossing back into Ontario.

When I've brought back bikes, occasionally Customs will not release the bike until they've inspected it -- they will usually do that within 48 hours.  Check the VIN etc.

The only issue I ever had was in bringing in a bike from Washington State, that had been sold new in Germany to a US Air Force Sergeant.  Turns out that there were two (2) typos on the US Military title -- Canada Customs caught one of them, which we were able to address, and the MTO caught the other before I could register it.  Funny how it had been 20 years with the same owner, had been registered in 3 states, including those with inspections, and the mismatch was never caught.

If I recall correctly, one typo was an extra digit in the VIN, and the other was an impossibility, sort of like a BX27RIB or a V-code Duster.

Back to the original point: postage and parcels have gotten pretty expensive.  I shipped a shaker baseplate to CA (no adapter ring) and that was $75 a couple of years ago.  And a 4# guitar body that came here from IL was US$82.45 via USPS  - 16"x22"x4"

Finding vert rear panels is next to impossible. 
Finding original red interior plastics is pretty hard none the less. 
But a vert rear panel without speaker holes cut into them is very hard to find in any color much less the hardest color of red.
