Hello everybody, I have an issue that I havent seen on this or any forum.

My car used to have a standard dash, and im conerting to rallye. As you can see in these pictures, my tach differs from any I've seen. The long post is on bottom and the short post is on top. Usually it's the opposite and the short post has the spade connector, which this doesn't have, ans usually accepts the grey/red wire from thw coil. Supposedly these gauges came from a 70 Challenger, and I'm unsure if this tach has had work done to it.

Here is my question: which wires should go where? Should the grey/red wire from the coil go on the short post, even though it's on top? Should the blue one go to the long post, even though it's on bottom?

Your help is greatly appreciated. I really don't want to short anything out.

It seems that the tach can only be mounted in one position due tot he mounting pattern , , the spade lug probably was left off at some point & can easily be added back on , so it connect as normal but really that is only a guess as to why yours is different unless someone here has a similar situation to compare to or you disassembe the tach  :alan2cents:

When you say "connect as normal" do you mean connect the coil wire to the short stud? Or do you mean connect it to the long one, which is the position it usually is?

As it is right now, I can't really even get the blue wire with the boot on the short stud... I really don't know what to do, haha

Both my tachs have have the long stud on "top". Maybe your cover was removed once and put back wrong. Anyway, look at the pictures and you'll see which wire goes where. If you take yours apart make 100% sure the studs don't short to the case.

Thank you for your help! It was quite useful to be able to see what's behind the cover. It looks like my tach was taken apart and put back together with the posts swapping positions. I could tell because of the difference in the color of the posts that the short one was still for the blue 12v wire and the long one was for the wire that goes to the coil. I got it back in the car today and it works like a charm!

Thanks again to both of you!
