So I changed out the forward wiring harness's today. Got new engine forward, ac, and 4 speed tranny harnesses in and it all worked ok except for one item. My reverse indicator light inside now stays on constantly while the car is running. I'm wondering if I just need to flip the harness at the switch on the tranny but wanted to check here first. Any ideas?

Everything went in nice.  I have the FSM and followed it closely just had this one gremlin.

Flipping the harness at the transmission switch will not help.   On my brothers V code 70 Runner we had the same problem after we had the 3 speed wiper motor restored. Turns out he reverse light harness [safety neutral harness] gets its juice from the wiper motor harness.  To fix the problem we just had to reverse the two leads on the small two wire harness coming from the wiper motor.[see pic]   With a test light you should be able to figure out what is going on.

B Bodies are wired different then E Bodies, but I would check the two wires going through the bulkhead to make sure they're not reversed

Do you have the original harness for the trans that plugs into the bulkhead? I had the same  problem and the 2 wires in the NEW harness were crossed in the connector. Drove me crazy!

Here's a wiring picture from my archives, no power from the wiper motor.

Ok!  Thanks for the help guys. So upon examination I've concluded that the wires are switched in the bulkhead which is the same issue you had Rich. The power to the switch is fed through the black wire which comes through the number 8 post on the bulkhead. At the switch power is fed back up the black with white tracer to number 7 on the bulkhead. From there a small pigtail comes out which supplies power to the reverse light. Power continues through 7 to the reverse lights.

Right now the wires are switched. Power from 8 is going direct to the reverse light and switch. I'm assuming when it reverse it sends power to the reverse lights through the black wire to number 7. Which means I at least have reverse lights where I need them the most. But I'd like to get this rectified.

My harness came from Evans wiring. I'll give him a call and see what they can do. The trouble is that the ac harness also goes to post 4 on this bulkhead which means I need to extract it. Is there a way to do this without tearing the whole bulkhead apart?

I'll attach pictures of the new harness vs the old.

Just switch the wires in the wire harness not the bulkhead....easy to do :alan2cents:

Yes that's what I did. Just reverse the 2 wires in that little connector that plugs in the bulkhead, not the main bulkhead harness.  I got my harness from Evens also and at a show I showed him my original and how his was reversed. I guess he never fixed his harness. Other than that his stuff is nice.

Good point!  Any tricks to doing that?  How do you get the wires out of the bulkhead plug?

Ok!  Never mind!  That was almost embarrassingly easy!  I switched the wires and it worked. Thanks for the help.
