I've learned one thing on this site, you're NOT gonna get anything technical answered.... you want paint ,you want stupid easy questions, you got it, you want technical  ....done!!!

I always try help out with technical stuff but I have been bad about patrolling the site.  I'll try do better.

As to the OP - I find it hard to believe that the Voltage Regulators were built in batches.  They fit almost everything so they needed an almost constant  demand.  No sane Process Engineer would set this up as a batch process.

It's a neat idea that you have but I wonder how you plan to unseal and reseal the component assembly in the case.

Cheers
Morty
Hey Morty haven't spoken with you for a while good to hear from you on this site..
I'm not getting that involved with the case.. Simply trimming the case to the "early" specs and adding the bump...Then a restamp...I'll post some pics of the progress..
It appears the voltage regulators as well as ignition coils were not made "every week"...There's an ever growing list of dates {as I've shown} and hopefully Cody will add the early date codes to the offerings in the stamp section of this site..
In the meantime I've already modified what's offered here and made my own date code for the early SPD...I've got the confirmation the stamp is already on the way..

Hey,

Wouldn't it be easier to transplant the new parts into an old case or do not have a supply of old cases?

Also I have a 40k mile WM23V0A that I am 90% sure has it original VR on it.  I'll have to check the date for you.  Right now I'm stuck in China

Not really Morty.. Even with modifying the new resto case to make it look like the early unit and adding the bump it's still much easier than trying to remove the internals and moving them over to an old case..
Check it out..
Nothing special here..I simply trimmed the case with tin snips to take the excess off the "wings" and filed the case as needed...Then I found a common washer that, believe it or not, was a darn near exact match to the height and width of that bump..With a little modification to add the beveled and rounded contour of the bump it's ready for install..

How will I fasten it to the case ??? Answer : 3M panel bonding adhesive..As you can see in the prior pic I roughed up both the case and the washer..The trick is to leave some of the original paint around the edge of the washer so it acts as a spacer for a thin layer of the adhesive under and then fill the center to the top...I Mixed a small amount up,applied, and left it dry..Trust me these are never going to separate without a fight ...Last pic is the unit sanded down with 600 and ready for the high temp paint...

Painted it up with high temp gloss black engine enamel... Now I've got the best of both worlds...Modern electronics, correct appearing "early case" and the bump...It's tough to get the gloss black pic but here it is...Very convincing...

And the final pic...
I'd like to thank Cody for taking the time to make up the stamp scripts and the link to Rubberstamps.net they had fantastic customer service and turn around time...
I also tried the colorbox pigment as suggested in the frost white color..I like the fact it wipes off with water..Considering I had to try about 30 times to even get a suitable outcome.. :haha: Anyhow here's what going on the car... :bigthumb:

That looks fantastic, what a simple and great idea :worship:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....
