70-71 voltage regulators

Hi guys.. In my never ending quest, I'm getting ready to improve/upgrade the voltage regulator on my 70 cuda and haven't come across any technical info on the site about the regulators themselves..
  So I'll throw out some info that I've accumulated and hopefully others can add to the info and accuracy for others to use..
  The main unit{s} in question are the ones with the "bump" on them.. Here's an example..

My intentions are to take a new voltage regulator and make it appear as an original by adding the bump and then restamping it using the site's available scripts here...
  On that note, there's a little more to it depending on what the date code needs to be for your window of SPD{scheduled production date}...I'm under the impression the acceptable "window" of date coding fall anywhere from a few weeks before to as far out as two months...{?}
    With that being said not only would there need to be the "bump" if using the new upgraded electronic piece available but also the case might need modified as well...
    There was a mid year change in the cases in 1970...Last time {as in 10 yrs ago}I've spoken with a few on the case change over it was determined that there were no "early" cases after the date of 499 {49th week of 1969,December for those interested} And I'll post my examples of each...

Now, the most obvious question is since I have both styles already why go through all the trouble of modifying a new regulator ??? Simple..I drive the car and want the upgraded electronics for dependability and I hopefully wont run the risk of the potting material running like candle wax down the firewall like the originals tended to do..
   For entertainment purposes I'll post what I thought was a cool pic of the original internal workings of the regulator...

OK here's where my questions start...The SPD of my car is 911 {Sept 11, 69}   which would translate to the 37th week of 69.. So for voltage regulator purposes would be 379.....
Would that leave me looking for a date code ranging from 289{mid july} to 339{mid august} ??? :thinking:

After looking through all my old files I've determined I can find the folder with original date codes for actual production runs of the regulator of that time frame.. ::)

   Was there "runs" of the regulators being made in a certain time frame or were they produced every week ???
  I don't want to pull a date code out of my hat and end up with a "one of none" date coded piece.. :haha:

Dave Walden had these dates available.

So perhaps, they were all made in large date batches on like what he was selling?

Thanks, I saw Dave had the 26th week of 69 in his listings...I didn't know if that pushes it out too far from the acceptable range or not..You'd think there would be a few batches in between 269 and 379 ?

Wow, nobody ??? Alrighty then... Maybe I'm the only one worrying about taking this level of correctness.. Anyhow I've confirmed additional runs past the 269 date... I've got 299 as well as 329...Which puts me right in there for the time frame..I'm sure with additional research there's probably more dates for the early 70 SPD cars but that will get it done for this project..If anyone runs across any other dates feel free to post them up...

After looking at what is available from Mopar now I decided not to modify the "resto" 70 date coded piece I had from a few years back... It appears the new units have been cheapened up by using a sticker for the script unlike the previous years where it was actually stamped on them... So with that in mind I bought a new offering which actually makes it easier to just simply peel off the sticker and move on to the fun stuff...Here's a pic of what's available now at least it's still made in the USA...

I always try help out with technical stuff but I have been bad about patrolling the site.  I'll try do better. 

As to the OP - I find it hard to believe that the Voltage Regulators were built in batches.  They fit almost everything so they needed an almost constant  demand.  No sane Process Engineer would set this up as a batch process. 

It's a neat idea that you have but I wonder how you plan to unseal and reseal the component assembly in the case.

Hey Morty haven't spoken with you for a while good to hear from you on this site..
   I'm not getting that involved with the case.. Simply trimming the case to the "early" specs and adding the bump...Then a restamp...I'll post some pics of the progress..
    It appears the voltage regulators as well as ignition coils were not made "every week"...There's an ever growing list of dates {as I've shown} and hopefully Cody will add the early date codes to the offerings in the stamp section of this site..
In the meantime I've already modified what's offered here and made my own date code for the early SPD...I've got the confirmation the stamp is already on the way..
