Well I'm making progress but still diagnosing. The fuse box on the truck is beside the glove box and I can see it with the glove box door open. So today, with the key in the on position, but the truck not started, and my foot on the brake I put the shifter in neutral and I see the fuse blow. AND, I can hear it arcing inside the steering column! Now I know where the problem is, I just don't know yet what it is. Heading to NY for a few days so I'll get back on this next week.

Well I finally got to the root of the problem. At some point in history before I owned the truck the shifter ring on the outside of the steering column go damaged. The triangular cut pushed inward and when the shifter hit neutral that piece would contact the turn signal wiring. Once it had it rubbed bare it would contact the wire and blow the fuse.

Retired electrician from 40+ years doing construction, instrumentation and networking. Diagnosis is/can be a major hurdle; the repair is usually simple. Great find. Probably never see this one again. :perfect10:

I wonder if that column piece is the same as E Body, if so, I have one here from a column shift car. :dunno:

For a little while, I was beginning to think we'd have to change your nickname to "blown fuse."  😁
