I am trying to refurbish my dimmer switch and struggling a little. But one question I have is about the yellow wire circuit that powers the dome lamp, key in buzzard,  time relay, map and ignition lamp. How exactly does the dimmer effect those? It looks like the dimmer switch grounds out the yellow circuit when the dimmer is maxed out, other wise the circuit is open. Does this mean all those items function only when the dimmer is maxed out and don't work if it is turned to a dimmed setting? Or am I missing something?

The black and tan circuit seems straight forward. The black circuit feeds the tan wire from the headlight switch and runs though the spring resistor to vary the output voltage to the fuse box, thus dimming various lights.

Thought?

Correct , the dome light & the map light can be turned on with the dimer at the end of the travel .

Correct that the dimmer provides a ground for dome lamp etc. through the yellow wire but you should see the same function from the door jam switch when door is open.
