No system seems to be perfect. Something to think about though is there's quite a few MSD Ignition box's running pretty well, probably way more than pertronix, rev box and FBO combined. MSD's box helps with multi spark and rev limiter. I don't have any experience with them, many note improvements at idle up to about 3k rpms.
You can run their box with a stock electronic distributor or buy one of MSD's nice billets.
As said above I went stock electronic distributor with HEI. To me seems to be much better than orange box, plus parts are available at most auto stores. Mounted the HEI under dash and have a back up I can replace without tools. See pictures, FYI spade connector is for module ground. I didn't need the finned heat sink since the mounting plate would be sufficient, already had so right now will use it.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I guess I'll have to start researching and go from there

With the low quality crap being sold these days I wouldn't be in any hurry to get rid of that 40-50 year old Mallory system..

I just updated my own experience with getting a new ignition setup for my 73 340 challenger.  I selected the Rev-N-Ator system and was extremely impressed.  Literally a plug in to the stock setup and it was a very noticeable improvement to what i felt was a decent running stock setup.

To be fair I've also used Don's system back when I had my Super Bee when they first came out and had zero issues with it.  That was back about nearly a decade now so i can't speak as to how his latest system compares but it worked well and he rebuilt my distributor as well.

What I would NOT recommend is the Mopar Performance setup.  Their quality is very questionable and recently on a friend super bee the distributor he got had a fouled up reluctor setup and when timing it i was disappointed on how the timing seemed to bounce a few degrees which made it a bitch to setup.
