Quick question on new stereo wiring

So I'm getting ready to install a Kenwood stereo in my Challenger (super excited to finally have some tunes, of course my chances of earning a speeding ticket are going to increase exponentially, as the volume control on my stereos always seem to be directly attached to the gas pedal  :dunno:)

Anyways, I have a question on the power supply hookup.

On the stereo wiring harness:

1. There is a (red) wire that is identified as an ignition wire.

2. There is a (yellow) wire that is identified as a battery wire.

3. There is a (black) wire that is a ground wire.

Seems simple enough, as the rest are speaker wires or wires for things I'm not really worried about (yet) such as Bluetooth.

In any event, any handy suggestions on what/where to connect these 3 wires?

Could I connect the red ignition wire from the stereo to the red wire under the dasy that is identified in the wiring diagram for my car as the "radio connection"?  (honestly, I'm assuming that wire is still there, it might not be as the original stereo wires were chopped at the back as it's just sitting in the dash).

What about the yellow batter wire and the black ground?

As always, thanks for any suggestions!!

I'll take a shot at this:

1. There is a (red) wire that is identified as an ignition wire.
This is for the positive on the stereo

2. There is a (yellow) wire that is identified as a battery wire.
This is the clock for the stereo

3. There is a (black) wire that is a ground wire.
This is the ground for the stereo

Correct, so my question is, are there any particular wires under the dash that I should wire those into?  As I said in my first post, there is supposed to be a red wire under the dash specifically for "radio connection".  I would assume that would work for my (red) positive from the stereo since it's basically only getting power when the ignition is on (hence the term "ignition wire" in the stereo directions).

As far as the yellow wire that is a "battery" wire, I would assume that it needs power all the time (as you said, to feed the clock), so what wire under the dash would this go best with?

Same thing with the black wire from the stereo that grounds, is there an under the dash mate for this?

I'm always looking for tips for wiring, it's never been my thing and I don't want to fry something expensive...lol.  I'd rather come across as a dumbarse and save my money!!

There are 3 tri plugs under the dash , red & yellow & orange , red & yellow will be switched power & battery power ,
you also have the radio plug which has the switched radio power & orange for the lights

You will need bullet connectors for the tri plugs.  If they are not snug it the plug just spread the tip of the bullet connector.

Thanks guys, that's what I was hoping for!!

I would re-use the radio plug and here is a pic.

:iagree:
Assuming you are removing the original radio.

You still need battery power to keep the memory , the radio power wire is switched

 :iagree:

Yep and you can pull that from one of the tri-plugs
