rally tachometer issue

Any thought on what could make a rebuilt tach fry on contact.  Used the digital replacement board

12v good continuity on wiring good ground good.  Tachnwas bench tested and worked perfectly

what kind of ignition do you have and where did you hook the trigger wire?

standard Mopar electronic ignition, gold box if it matters.  negative side of the coil.

insulating washers in the right places on the terminals ?

Yes, back the way they came off.  First time off since factory built it

Nothing is shorting to the steel can inside the tach ?

not that i could see upon inspection of the tach pc board
