The reverse switch on our 4-speed was not working.  When we shifted into reverse, the switch did not close.  A little investigation showed that the lever arm on the shaft inside the transmission did not come back far enough to depress the little ball in the end of the switch housing.  I called and discussed it with Dan Brewer as I had bought most of these parts from him.  He said that he has seen this before.  He said that the switch mounting face needed machined back some.  He said usually 30 thousandths will do it.  He said that he has machined them as far as 1/8 inch just to see if he could without the housing coming apart.  The surface in question is marked with a red arrow in the attached picture.   I had my buddy chuck it up in his lathe and take 45 thousandths off.  It works perfectly now.
