Taillight wiring and knit wrapping

[R/T's 4 R/P]

I have a few taillight wiring sets. (For 1970 Challenger)
What I would like to do is take 3 and make 2 good ones. The knit/coil wrapping seems like something that must have been placed on the harness as it was being created.
Does anyone have experience replacing it? I have 2 harnesses with great wrapping.
I presume I'd need to pull off the build sockets.

There was a post on moparts a while back about this- apparently it was indeed machine wrapped around the harness and not available loose. I assume that's also how the repop harnesses get done but not sure.
