Hi,

I'm converting my Mopar electronic ignition, to Petronix. After disconnecting the ecu and old distributor, I am not getting voltage, to the coil. Even when I hotwire the coil and give it a full 12 volts, I am getting no spark. The new distributor (stock hemi with Petronix), is wired to the positive and negative sides of the coil correctly and the ballast resistor is bypassed.

I am wondering if the engine harness is compatible with this system, or do I need to put a 1970 style harness in, which would be points type, with no ecu or distributor wiring connectors. Right now, those two connectors are open.

The instructions for the Pertronix system clearly state you need 12V to the pertronix , everyone makes the mistake of connecting to the coil which only has 7v , this will kill the Pertronix unit . It must be connected to the 12v side of the ballast .

I was told to bypass the ballast resistor. Shouldn't that provide 12 volts? I'm registering 0 volts, to the coil. That is why I think I have an open circuit somewhere, caused by the old ecu and distributor connectors being open being open.

with the Pertronix coil I believe you can bypass the ballast & make sure you have 13v to both , I have seen many Failed Pertronix units do to low voltage.
Normally the blue wire to the ballast is switched 13 V feed

Thanks, for the responses. I have run most of those tests and hotwired the positive side of the coil, to the battery, with no result. The coil checks out okay, too. The car ran moments before I disconnected everything, so I know it's something I did. The only difference is that the engine harness now has two connections that are unused, the ecu and the distributer plug. I went ahead and ordered a new, original points-style harness, for it. The new harness will not have those two connectors.
