:iagree:
I would find & build a 360 / 408 instead of overspendin on a 340 block  :iagree:
I can pick up a late 70's 360 short block for $100. Will most of my 318 accessories fit? (Alt, p/s pump, swirl port heads, intake, etc.)

It should fit, but from a performance point, I think the smaller port 318 heads are a step back from the 360 heads.  If you just want a running engine to cruise around with, then it should work fine.

When you say swirl port heads, are you talking about the 302 or 308 closed chamber heads from the late 80s? I've been searching for a set of those for a long time. I have a set of J heads that I'd be happy to trade off.

Yes, my heads came off a Dakota. If I get the 360 block, I'll shoot you a message.

That would be great. I've been wantzing a set for my low compression 318 just to give the motor a bit more bottom end torque. I would think the J heads would be a nice compliment to a stout 360. They wouldn't help my 318 being open chambered. I envision running aluminum heads on my 340 when the time comes anyway.

Aren't there 360 blocks that have some sort of better crank seals or something like that at a certain year point?
