Anybody know what the correct markings would be on a 71 with a 3.55 sure grip? Just the colored striping. If you have some pics that would be swell.

Orange on the fill plug too.  And I seem to remember they put an extra orange dab down on the lower section if it was a sure grip, right?  Or am I completely making that up?  :dunno:  Sometime I don't know why I remember things... maybe I'm wrong?

This was an original 8 /34 for an E-Body that was a 3.55 sure grip with 7290 yoke.  It was primed and painted over years before I got it, but I removed the paint carefully to reveal the markings.  It kinda looks yellow in the photo, but it had one large orange dabs with 3 whites ones.  It also had an orange dab under the fill plug.  It also had what looked to be a "30 written on it.

This came out of my 71 Road Runner. Ran it through a parts wash machine. All the markings are still intact and very legible. Ring gear dated 5/23/71. Car build was 7/9/71. Rear is a 3.23 open. Good reference material here.

Hi Guys, hate to bring this back up but I am trying to figure out the markings for my car. Can someone explain what is Stem Size? I know the car is a 3.55 sure grip and there are three color daub options for that size one of the differences is this Stem Size.
Someday I will have a J0b.

RUNCHARGER

489 case has a 1 7/8" stem size, 741 case has a 1 3/8" stem size. 742 case is a 1 3/4" stem size but wasn't used in 72.

You're not pulling that one out of your magic hat Cody..Sure grip rears got the orange paint daub at the filler plug...It wasn't pretty and sometimes went on the bottom also....That chart Alan posted was originally printed in a Mopar Muscle article applied to a 1970 reference , I wasn't sure if it applied to 71 as well...Other markings/inspection daubs around the third member could be the pinion nut, crayon applied 2 digit number near the stamped date assembly,

Thanks for the info!

Basically what I am coming up against is that there really isn't complete or accurate information for 1972 and up challengers. Since my 3.55 sure grip unit is brand new there is no markings on it. I want that original look so I need to make an educated guess.

I am going to throw on the daubs on the bottom, I am going to put the digits on the axle tube (Once I figure them out) but beyond that it sounds like everything else would just be a guess.

My 70 A66 Challenger vert came factory with the 8 3/4 w 3:55 sure grip

As per the chart; 2 white stripes are in evidence w the orange indicating the sure grip on my car after I cleaned it up.
