440 stroker - am I leaving a lot on the table?

So with the summer winding down (kind of), it has me thinking of what's on the agenda for winter projects on the ol' mopar money pit. :haha: I have about 750 miles on my 512 stroker and while I love it and it has tons of power,  it doesn't scare me as much anymore. Maybe I'm used to it? But part of me thinks I may be leaving some power in the table that I could have remedied over the winter. Specs below:

-76' 440(stroked to 512)
-Eagle crank, diamond pistons, eagle rods
- compression 10.1
-lunati hydraulic roller cam 60312
-440 source stealth heads - stock
-comp cam rockers
-850 double pumper
-mancini water pump kit
-champion 26" radiator
-Hedman ceramic coated headers 3"
-3" TTI x pipe exhaust w/ dynomax superturbos
- 8-3/4 with 3.23 gears

The biggest opportunity I'm thinking is the heads/intake. They were both put on out of the box with no porting or anything. Are they worth being worked to get more power?

I have a Dana 60 I'll be putting in and thinking 3.55 gears so it's still manageable on the highway. Thinking also that maybe the 3.23s are severely hurting performance?

Other things going through my head...are the superturbos strangling it at all? They sound weak. Is my cam too small?

Thinking my carb/timing may also need work. It seems to run rich on startup (noticeable rich smell) but then clears up and it runs good. But it idles high I think? Around 1100 rpm whether it's warm or cold.

Carb is a bit small, heads need to be ported. I can't find the camshaft specs. What do you have for a torque convertor?

3.55 should help some.
Read a couple other threads with about the same build , would changing cam centerline change better for what you want.
Maybe Trick Flow heads, good bit of money to do that though.

Cam, Lunati hydraulic roller 60312
Intake Duration @.050: 231
Exhaust Duration @.050: 239
Intake Duration: 282
Exhaust Duration: 290
Lobe angle: 110 deg
Cam centerline: 106 deg, straight up
Intake Valve Lift: 0.571 with 1.6 rockers
Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.587 with 1.6 rockers

Saw this elsewhere, havent verified specs yet

RUNCHARGER

Hmm: Camshaft is a bit small but I would leave it in and port the heads. I actually like 3.23 with a stroker, you can peddle it with street tires and run at highway speeds fine as well.
What intake manifold are you using?
Sheldon

Holley street dominator intake. No work done to that at all either

Cam specs above are right, more detail here from lunatis site:

Retro-Fit Hydraulic Roller. High performance street cam. Likes upgraded intake, carb and exhaust. Needs 2800 RPM stall converter in most cases. Requires 9.5:1 compression for maximum performance. ;Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 282/290 ;Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 231/239 ;Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .535/.550 ;LSA/ICL: 110/106 ;Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd ;RPM Range: 2200-6200 ;Includes: Cam Only

I almost went 1 size bigger but lunati talked me out of it. Details below:
Retro-Fit Hydraulic Roller. Serious street/race cam. Needs 10.5:1 compression and 3200 RPM stall convert- er. Works with moderate nitrous and small superchargers. Very healthy idle quality. ;Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 294/302 ;Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 243/251 ;Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .560/.565 ;LSA/ICL: 110/106 ;Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd ;RPM Range: 2600-6600 ;Includes: Cam Only

So thinking I should port the heads and intake and leave the cam? Part of me wants a very rowdy cam but I have no idea how big I'd have to go to get it to be rowdy in a 512 and then would it be street able?

RUNCHARGER

Not a wedge but I had a real kitten of a camshaft in my 472 stroker Hemi and it would idle smooth as glass. When you opened it up though it was an absolute animal up to about 6000rpm. My heads flowed much more than yours of course but with a smaller camshaft and although it didn't have any flash it had lots of dash. I ran a stock convertor with it and 3.23 gears, I had to peddle it when I tried to race it at the track with street tires (like to trying to hit it at the 1/8 and going sideways).
That's why I would try porting your heads first, I think it will respond quite well to more flow from the heads and a bigger carb.

There is a lot of gain in the heads & intake , both are decent but can do better with porting , Trick Flows would help for sure  , the cam is a decent grind

:iagree:  I have the same cam but in a 451"  with ported Mopar Stage 6 heads and a mildly ported Holley Street dominator ( 440) intake. I raised the ports in both intake and heads almost 1/4" ( they are already a raised port design) I'm happy with my combo, not changing anything except maybe FI down the road.  I'm running falken azenis rt615k not BFG hockey pucks and traction still is  very much an issue off the line!

My 505 stroker is very similar to yours with a 312 cam and I'm running a Street Dom intake and Eddy heads both stock with 3.23 gears.  My compression is 10.34:1 which is a bit higher.  It dynoed 440 hp and 530 tq at the wheels.  I added a Sniper over a year ago and it vastly improved the throttle response. I like the 3.23 gears with this big engine, great on the highway and still pulls like a train at WOT.

If I were you, I would port the intake and heads and try that before going much deeper in your pockets.

Definitely have the heads worked and intake matched. Carb is a bit small but maybe change to larger jets if you don't want to get a larger carb. IMO the 3.55 will also help but you will loss a litte highway.

What sniper kit part # did you go with. Was also thinking about this

Chryco Psycho

I can give you a lot of tips on porting if you decide to do this

I bought the 4150 kit, fuel tank with in-tank pump and the hyper spark distributor for electronic timing.  I have found that going all in seems to have the best results.
